What is a Construction Carpenter job description?
The work is usually performed under the supervision of a Carpenter II or Building Maintenance Foreman; Carpenter I’s are assisted by apprentices and trades helpers; Makes and repairs cabinets, desk, tables and other office furniture; repairs doors and locks; Makes and repairs window frames and sashes; Makes and repairs partitions, covering with dry wall and paneling; applies spackling to seams and nail heads; installs ceiling; lays various types of floors and floor covering; Makes and repairs screens; Builds forms for pouring concrete; Operates woodworking machinery; Constructs small buildings and additions; Supervises the work of apprentices and trades helpers; performs related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory; successful candidates will possess the following skills/competencies: Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the trade; Ability to estimate time and materials as needed; Ability to operate common woodworking machinery; Ability to lay out work for self and others; Ability to rig and work from scaffolds; and must be in good physical condition. Completion of ninth grade trade school course with some experience as a carpenter and supplemented by completion of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
