What is a General Superintendent Job Description?

Oversee construction activities for assigned projects; ensuring work is completed safely, within schedule and budget, in a manner consistent with Company policies and procedures. Will typically have 4-6 foremen with 5-10 man crews working under supervision. Will report to the owner.

Work Schedule & Travel:
Required travel will vary based on location of jobs, generally no more than 150 miles from Home Office. In such cases where staying overnight is required, lodging and per diem will be provided according to company policy. At times working after hours including weekends will be required. Candidate should expect a typical work week of 50 hours but should understand that at times hours worked may exceed 50 hours in one week. Candidate must be willing to work the hours it takes to successfully complete projects.

Responsibilities:
1.Responsible for the overall progress of the project as well as the scheduling of workers and the delivery of equipment and materials
2.Assists in staffing, outlining project plans, setting project goals/deadlines (CPM scheduling), and evaluating performance.
3.Conduct daily coordination meetings with foreman
4.Lead and direct the work of others
5.Prepare and/or review daily labor, production, equipment reports to be submitted to office.
6.Maintain accurate record keeping
7.Safety – conduct safety meetings on regular basis and monitor work activities to ensure safe work practices are always used. Correct as needed.
8.Interviewing, hiring, training personnel
9.Equipment & tools – monitor use of equipment to ensure best care is taken so as not to damage or lose equipment. Will work in connection with equipment manager to schedule repairs, maintenance, mobilization.
10.Coordinate with engineers, owners, general contractors
11.Resolve problems/conflict
12.Others duties as required

Qualifications
1.Minimum of 10 years experience in a supervisory position in the heavy civil/heavy highway construction industry.
2.Basic computer skills required;
3.Bilingual in English/Spanish
4.Self motivated
5.Ability to work well under pressure
6.Excellent personal and communication skills
