What is Construction Controller Job Description ?

GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:

This is a management level position responsible for all aspects of the Accounting and Finance. This individual will develop a system of financial controls and reporting for the entire project to include monitoring and reporting of the project budget, monthly and year end GAAP financial reports and job costing. Responsible for overall IS development for Project.

CORE FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and integrate a system of controls and financial reporting
A disciplined professional manager possessing good organizational skills, systems, and interpersonal skills and a solid understanding of large scale development projects.
Direction of local accounting staff.
Coordination and financial oversight of General Contractor/Construction Manager
Origination and interpretation of budgets and controls.
Preparation, management, reporting and control for project.
Oversee and manage local information systems.
Team player with demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

This individual will assist the Director of Development activities related to the control and reporting for all construction process, and interface with all internal divisions of the company and its partners, senior management with the organization, and members of the general business community. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Establish a set of internal controls and system of financial reporting.
Develop and manage Information Systems for the project
Monitor and control the reporting systems and procedures established by the company for evaluating project results as to cost, schedule, quality, and client relationship keeping informed of all such activities and performance.
Supervise the local accounting staff.
Interface with General Contractor/Construction Manager
Manage the goals, objectives, and performance of team members reporting.
Assists the Director of Development, CFO and VP of Development in preparing Budgets, Cash Flows, and Financial reports required for the project.
Develops project projections and pro-formas.
Responsible for personnel management of direct reports to include performance reviews, performance counseling, talent development etc
Interfaces with Executives
Adherence to all personnel policies and company handbooks

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

10-15+ Years job related experience
Experience in preparation of projections and pro-formas
Ability to manage through conflict, complexity and to problem-solve issues to resolution
Computer proficiency
Financial Reporting (GAAP)
Knowledge of US income regulations
Ability to comfortably communicate, both verbally in presentation and conversation, and written in correspondence to project team, vendors, consultants, prospects and partners.
Ability to give direction, adapt to change, establish relationships, and work in a team environment


LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

Ability to successfully manage personnel providing leadership, mentoring, coaching and guidance
Ability to resolve conflict, negotiate
Ability to delegate.
Ability to successfully manage external accounting firms.
