experience: I have 30 years of experience in leading, supervising, and performing the master site planning, designing (interior and exterior), construction, and modification of variety of high quality buildings and related structures (commercial, condominiums and hotel beach resorts, residences, recreation, medical, industrial, and historical) in Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Washington D.C. For 25 of the 30 years, I have managed my own architectural firm and have directed engineers, architects, interior designers, contractors, and technical staff from project start to finish. I have extensive experience in interacting with a variety of customers and investigating, identifying, evaluating, and documenting the needs of the clients and the adequacy of proposed construction sites. As an example, I have experience with working with state agencies to rapidly design plans to reconstruct residences that have been damaged by natural disasters. I have conducted studies to determine the economic viability of a project including the review of construction plans and supporting documentation and land use compatibility with the client need. I have developed preliminary construction schematics to support the development of cost estimates and detailed architectural construction drawings upon which the final estimate is developed and structure is constructed. I have developed creative solutions to address challenging designs. As an example, I observed that the design for construction of a new bridge would preclude accessibility to local businesses and worked with the Department of Transportation, Community Redevelopment Agency, City of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and local property owners to redesign traffic patterns to make the businesses accessible. Additionally, as a major contributor to the historic preservation in Volusia County, Florida, I introduced the Main Street Program to Deland and New Smyrna Beach, Florida which lead to the revitalization of the downtown areas, and worked with local citizens to preserve the remnants of Eldora, Florida, a historic riverfront community. Also, I was recognized with the Florida Historic Trust Adaptive Reuse Award for designing an innovative reuse for a historic structure. I have experience with Green designs including the use of low energy lighting, HVAC and plumbing systems, environmentally friendly and renewable construction materials and high efficiently insulation. Continually participating on numerous community redevelopment and historic preservation organizations has helped me to develop and maintain my extensive and varied skills, knowledge and abilities.
