Up-and-coming developer of residential real estate in Saudi Arabia.

 

Projects Director

 

Direct the daily operation of 4 complex, multi-dimensional construction projects, with a potential value of over $2 billion. Set parameters for feasibility studies, financial & investment analysis & procurement process. Review designs, conducted Value Engineering sessions, follow up on government approvals and licenses.

 

Highlights & Achievements:

 

• Managed the design & construction of a master-planned resort called Dana Bay including several hotels of multiple scale and target customers, launching the Request for Proposal, hiring designers and contractors, supervising the construction to complete the development within 8 years, with a projected cost of over $1.3 billion.

 

• Developed successful bid for a $150 million contract to develop a 228 unit housing community with infra-structure for Saudi Aramco, beating out 8 other developers to secure the contract.

 

• Recognized the potential of a smaller construction project taking place at Khobar Gardens, realizing that it was the first with the capability to make a significant profit for the company.

 

• Value engineered architectural design for a mixed use project including Hilton Hotel and Serviced Apartments saving the company 12% in construction costs on a $400 million project.

Chief Operating Officer, Damascus, Syria (2007 – 2009)

 

Established the offices for a foreign-based company in a new country, securing all necessary permits, and licenses, renting real estate offices, hiring technical and administrative staff, and launching successful new division able to win local contracts in excess of $150 million during the first year of operation. Devised processes and procedures followed by all employees allowing the company to function at peak proficiency. Highlights & Achievements:

 

• Bid on and won $14 million project to build the infrastructure for the Eighth Gate project managed by EMAAR, later winning an additional $48 million EMAAR contract based on exceptional work completed on the original project.

 

• Launched $10 million Pre Cast factory construction project for Premco, completed it within 8 months of groundbreaking, and secured an additional $45 million contract for the same client.

 

• Generated profits at the 18th month level of the business plan within 6 months of operation, quickly growing from start-up to “successful prospect” in the region.

 

Project Director, Al Marasem, Egypt (2005 – 2007)

 

Oversaw the daily operations of all projects awarded to the company in the country of Egypt, providing direction and management that facilitated the completion of projects on-time and on-budget. Coordinated with consultants, management companies, outside vendors, and construction workers to achieve the highest levels of value engineering, securing all materials including FF&E from reliable competent sources in a timely manner.

 

Highlights & Achievements:

 

• Turned around struggling construction project for Amira Royal Resort in Ras Suder, attracting hotel operators to participate and share the success of this unique hotel. Managed the ID design and Procured the designed elegant FF&E through international sources.

 

• Took over the engineering departments responsible for construction of a new passenger terminal at Sharm El Sheikh Airport in Egypt, moving it from 15% completed after 10 months of construction to 90% completed just 6 months later.

 

Client’s Representative, Cairo, Egypt (2001 – 2005)

 

Reviewed and approved plans and designed pre-cast elements for the façade of the King Abdul Aziz Endowment Project, constructed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, playing a key role in the look of this iconic structure. Provided client with updates and best advice regarding the selection of materials, ensuring all design elements work together to create a memorable impression while keeping in mind the unique location in front of the Holy Mosque.

 

Highlights & Achievements:

 

• Coordinated all departments and subcontractors assigned to complete the Precast façade elements on-schedule and on-budget, working with several international companies to ensure curtain walls, pre-cast, marble, and granite elements were properly ordered and installed.

 

• Set up and supervised local engineering office to provide daily coordination between client, designer, and construction team of $1.2 billion B.O.T. project, consisting of a Mega Podium, 6 apartment towers, a 5-star hotel with extensive royal suites, and all facilities and services.

 

Technical Manager, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1997 – 2000)

 

Managed the technical aspects of construction of one of Riyadh’s most recognizable and celebrated building complexes, the Al Faisaliah Center. Consisting of a main office tower, a banquet hall able to accommodate up to 4000 people, a 5-star Khozama hotel, 100 apartment units, a retail shopping mall, and parking for more than 1,300 cars, this $320 million state-of-the-art project is currently the 2nd tallest building in Saudi Arabia.

 

Highlights & Achievements:

 

• Finished construction within the 3-year contracted period, despite several redesigns of the original plans that required work to stop for a period of time.

 

• Participated in the record-breaking concrete foundation pour of 4 meters deep and 6,000 cu meters poured in just 17 hours.
