Mr. Berglund was Project Director for NIAIDs $730 million program with over 830,000 gross square feet of BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.  He directed teams overseeing the work of nine architect/engineers and thirteen constructors for fourteen labs from concept to operations and provided milestone design reviews, monthly cost and schedule reviews, regular site visits and progress meetings, and all backup documentation supporting the NIAIDs interests.  (NIH-National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases)


Mr. Berglund was the Construction Manager (CM) for Endos 24,000 square foot research and development (R&D) facility being built in an existing warehouse in Westbury, New York.  Acting as the Owners CM he managed the conceptual design development and detailed design and provided full-time oversight of the general contractor. Mr. Berglund was Construction Manager on the initial phase of UDeCOTTs Healthcare initiative with an aggressive goal of 8 hospitals with over 1200 beds, and drafted Memos of Understanding (MOU) between government agencies for government to government agreements. Mr. Berglund was the Project Manager for the fast track, EPCM, chemical plant debottlenecking project consisting of 14 phases in an on-stream facility with extensive shutdown planning to safely contain toxics and minimize unit down time. Mr. Berglund served as Project Manager for this fast-track air emission abatement project added to a series of existing batch reactors that supply all the dyes used in their instant film and for the expansion of the existing process reaction facilities. (Polaroid Corporation)


As Project Manager, Mr. Berglund was responsible for successfully executing ten chemical plant projects from scoping estimates through a multi-million dollar computer control retrofit project which converted a batch process control system from pneumatic to distributed control. (DuPont)


Mr. Berglund was the Project Manager responsible for developing process improvements to an operating plastics recycling facility.  He led a team through numerous retrofits, including round-the-clock turnarounds during holiday outages.  Mr. Berglund became the plant maintenance manager. Mr. Berglund managed design engineering of food projects, including a bakery expansion (Better Baked Foods); beer can line (Anheuser-Busch);  sodium bicarbonate handling and baking soda (Church & Dwight); and a structural design for weighing individual potato chips (Frito-Lay)


Mr. Berglund was the Project Manager for the Project Systems portion of a corporate-wide enterprise implementation of SAP.  He analyzed project practices to devise the best operating system for each company.  He provided liaison with the engineering and construction division during normalization period. Mr. Berglund served as Project Manager for design and engineering of a 24,000 square foot factory for cGMP batch processing and purification of a fermentation product.  He served as the clients coordinator with the local government agencies for permitting and Quality Control approvals.  He presented the air flow charts and separation diagrams to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for engineering approvals. As Project Manager, Mr. Berglund was responsible for the design and construction of a 70,000 square foot cGLP facility designed for plant seed and Polymers R&D.  The project was successfully fast-tracked to produce genetic seed by the upcoming growing season.  He provided on-site construction liaison with the builder. Mr. Berglund was the Project Engineer for a grassroots slag cement plant which converted 850,000 tons per year of industrial waste product into useful, marketable product.  The project included systems to stockpile and reclaim, grind, store and ship the 4 micron product. (Atlantic Cement)


Mr. Berglund was the Project Manager responsible for the programming and preliminary design package for a 100,000 square foot laboratory facility for pharmaceutical quality controls and analytical laboratories. (E. R. Squibb)


Mr. Berglund provided design engineering and construction management for a $40 million synthetic soap plant, including batch reaction and stripping through molding and packaging.  He provided on-site coordination during construction.  Total construction extras were less than three percent of subcontracted costs. Mr. Berglund planned a refinerys annual capital budget and optimized the capital spending plan. (Gulf Oil)


Serving in multiple roles as Project Engineering Manager, Project Engineer, Planner and Scheduler, Mr. Berglund was responsible for refinery and chemical plant projects at four sites over five-years.  Projects included an isomerization unit, desulfurization unit, sulfur recovery unit, tail gas clean-up units, wet gas scrubber, C4 feed fractionator and C3/C4 splitter. Mr. Berglund served as the Start-up Planner for the first iron ore refinery fluidized iron ore reduction process developed by Exxon Research. (FIOR, Ciudad Guyana, Venezuela)


Mr. Berglund served as Senior Field Engineer and Assistant Construction Manager for utilities and offsite facilities for this grassroots ethylene plant. (Royal Dutch Shell, Moerdijk, Holland)
