Work Experience
Worked as a Teaching Assistant during my Masters program at Cleveland State University. During my Masters program, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Nilufer Dural (Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Cleveland State University). My job was to help students in all areas of curriculum, maintaining pupil records and carrying out administrative tasks, planning learning activities with faculty, assisting with the development of support materials and help with assessment of pupils progress. My job just did not polish my command in the subject but it also enhanced my managerial and leadership qualities.
Worked as a Junior Level Engineer for Lotus Properties Limited, Hyderabad in "Residential Buildings (Duplex houses) and Raft Foundations" in Hyderabad (India). Different concepts like Slab Reinforcements, Footing design and Layout of the reinforcements are specially encountered in this project. Various aspects like anchorages, placement of steel, use of bent up bars, sunken slabs pertaining to the slab reinforcement are clearly understood. Layout of foundations, especially on weak soils like black cotton soils having low bearing capacities of nearly 82-65 KN/m2 have come across. The distribution of loads onto such weak soils using special foundations such as Raft, Pile, Floating and Combined foundations is the theme of the project. Also used calcium and other chemicals for stabilization of swelling and shrinkage of black cotton soils.
Did final year project in "Geographic Information Systems (GIS)", and created a Digital Elevation Model for Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Visakhapatnam. The study area (Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management) is located at latitude of 1704650.2 N and longitude of 8302249.1 E in India. GITAM is 30 year old University, and has five colleges in its campus and its accelerated growth is continuing many more constructions and therefore very fast land use changes. In this context, considering the advantages of DEM in Civil Engineering planning, it is decided to take up a study on DEM for GITAM campus. Three different objectives are formulated to carry out the above task. During the various stages of study, the data analysis was carried out using AutoCAD 2004, Surfer 6 and ILWIS 3.2. The total station survey was carried out to obtain elevation data for the campus and GPS survey for obtaining Ground Control Points (GCPs) for geo-referencing of the map.
Academic Projects
Did a Paper review on "Best Management Practices for Stormwater Management? As a part of the curriculum, I did a paper review and presentation on Best Management Practices for Stormwater Management. In which I learned and discussed about various sources of stormwater and various practices for minimizing the nuisance caused by it and various ways to make the best use of stormwater.
Design of Wastewater Treatment plant. Designed a wastewater treatment plant for a given effluent for a known population with known concentrations of Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) etc.
Technical Skills
Got trained and worked on Total Station surveying equipment. Well versed with building planning and drawings. Frequently used AutoCAD in the completion of Under-Graduation Project.
