Riverbend Park (AmeriCorps) Palisade, CO - Spring 2010 Developed a new park master plan for a small agricultural community situated along the Colorado River that receives and influx of tourists during summer festivals. Several issues explored were water rights, a fluctuating population, creating a narrative landscape that reflected the history of the area and engaging conversation with the community about the desires for the park and alternative solutions for the community.
Recognized various formal, social, economic, and political forces that impact the built environment. Determined processes and practices that created conceptual, analytical, and formative actions that transformed existing situations into preferred alternatives. Identified a design problem within a larger cultural, social and ecological context. Setup and tested strategies that synthesized my research and contextual processes. Implemented and demonstrated strategies through physical applications. Prepared, presented and organized, professional and compelling verbal and visual presentations using appropriate media to explain complex ideas and concepts. Developed appropriate process to facilitate community government. River North (RiNo) partnership with EDAW/AECOM Denver, CO - Fall 2009 Designed a future reality of the River North area, in north-central Denver by creating an identity for the district. This Identity was fostered by the introduction and reconsideration of certain infrastructures. These infrastructures included material infrastructures, the physical elements in the urban fabric (environmental, transportation, land-use pattern, water and energy systems) and organizational infrastructures (economic, interpersonal networks, and social systems). Ultimately integrating the spatial practices of material infrastructures with the social practices of organizational infrastructures. The final design created an more cohesive, integrated built environment that fused architecture, landscape and civil engineering.
Became familiar with the language and operations of contemporary Urban Design theory. Experienced and developed the language and operations of civil engineering, environmental ecologies, land use, and urban development, real estate financing, and transportation systems. Identified the relationship between theory and practice Produced work corroboratively in a team. Verbally and visually presented ideas to colleagues, design professionals, city planning department, and the RiNo community. 1 Canalscapes (AmeriCorps) Phoenix, AZ - Spring 2009 Developed, designed, and presented alternative visions for a unique form of urbanism to be located along the canals of Metro Phoenix. The existing network of canals created an interesting potential for Canalscapes that potentially cultivate live/work/play environments along the banks. In conjunction with Dr. Nan Ellin, the director of Urban and Metropolitan studies at the Arizona State Universitys school of Public Affairs, we were given the task of developing designs for these unique communities situated at the intersections of the canals and a spectacular desert.
Prepared and provided to the local community a visioning document summarizing strategies and designs for desert urbanism. Practiced water policy, real estate development, hydrology, and environmental engineering. Met with community members, artists and designers to share ideas for the future of the canals. Learning Landscapes (AmeriCorps) Denver, CO - Spring 2009 Created master plans for two elementary school campuses (Amesse + Johnson) in the Denver Public School system that targeted existing and proposed uses, relationships between uses, programmatic requirements for uses, maintenance, safety issues, and preliminary cost estimates.
Developed a vision, a set of goals to implement the vision, a program of uses, a spatial relationship diagram and aesthetic ordering system. Created schematic design, development drawings, detailed comprehensive master plans, construction documents, and cost estimates Conducted student, school faculty, and community meetings, reviews, and presentations during all phases of design. Collaborated with (DPS) Denver Public Schools and several Landscape Architecture practices in developing construction documents and implementing design. Red Rocks Canyon Colorado Springs, CO - Fall 2008 Designed and developed a community resort within a 750 acre parcel of land located near Colorado Springs. Through research, analysis, and speculation we proposed a range of alternative scenarios and strategies that allowed the site to develop in a direction pursuant of the goals assigned by the client.
Conducted and investigated site analysis and site context with regards to land use opportunities and constraints Developed programming for complex needs Created design strategies and evaluation techniques Produced site planning and design at the master planning and detail scales Acquired written, oral, model and graphic communication techniques
