To whom it may concern,

My name is James Ernst, I am writing to inquire about your companys need for a Project Manager/Estimator. Most recently I was a Project Manager for Kelly Electric, due to economic conditions my position was eliminated May 28, 2010. I am writing to tell you I am very excited about a new opportunity to continue a career as a PM/estimator and I think that my passion for the industry and understanding of the marketplace makes me a great fit for a position with your company.

The project management and estimating experience I have had has occurred over the last three years working for Kelly Electric and Holmes Electric. While working at Kelly Electric my main duties were to develop relationships with general contractors in an effort to gain business opportunities, estimate jobs in an effort to meet revenue goals for the company while still being competitive in the market, and manage projects through completion. Managing projects and winning business for Kelly and Holmes Electric were accomplished through self-motivation, great customer service, and focusing on delivering outstanding results in terms of profitability and quality. I developed a great understanding of both estimating and project management from working directly with the owners of Kelly Electric and the senior management of Holmes Electric. This knowledge helped me learn the most effective and efficient ways to bid and manage electrical projects.

Prior to my experience as a PM/estimator, I spent time working with hundreds of electrical contractors in the northwest during my time spent as a sales representative for American Power Conversion. I was in charge of developing and managing all of the relationships APC made with electrical contractors in the power protection market. My daily duties included large amounts of education and communication with APC partners through on site training and product demonstrations. I was in charge of sampling new products to old and new accounts, account follow-ups, introducing new products to electrical contractors across the northwest at monthly meetings, and hosting product demonstration events. To build relationships with contractors for APC was a result of a high level of self-motivation, confidence and pride in my work, as well as relationship development with key accounts.

I got my start in the electrical industry at Sheppard and Nelson Electric in 1999 as an electrician. While spending over four years as an apprentice I learned the ins and outs of the electrical industry by working in the trenches. My hands on electrical experience as an electrician has given me a deep understanding of what goes into every project I estimate and manage. I believe the competitive advantage Id bring to your company is a unique combination of deep technical understanding, strong estimating skills and polished communication abilities. I am looking forward to a new challenge with a reputable electrical company like yours. I am highly motivated with a serious passion for the industry. I have high expectations of my work, which makes me a committed employee. Im always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the company I represent is shown in the best possible light. I have attached my resume for your review and consideration. I look forward for a chance to tell you more about my ability to help your team.

Thank you,

James Ernst
