specific applications such as neutron-gamma coupled transport problem in subsurface logging
environments. Among the enhanced features are elemental spectral tally, formation zone tally,
pulse height tally and timing tally, etc.
01/2008-12/2008 Project manager of environmental correction for SpectraLog tool and GR tools
at Baker Atlas
Developed the new algorithms used for environmental corrections of SpectraLog tool and GR
tools. The new algorithms include improved borehole size, mud weight and borehole potassium
corrections. The new algorithms were developed based on MCNP models and Lab
measurements. They have been implemented into log interpretation code and a paper was
published at the 2009 SPWLA Annual Symposium.

Taught Monte Carlo training classes for the graduate students.
05/2005 08/2005. CRP collaboration project with Los Alamos National Laboratory, NC State
University
Investigated the feasibility of adding detector response in MCNP code. A computer code was
developed for calculating the detector response function of Germanium detector based on
Semi-empirical model. The simulated spectra were benchmarked with the experimental results.

08/2004 05/2005. Coincidence C/O (Carbon/Oxygen) logging tool conceptual design. NC
State University
An innovative C/O logging tool was designed using coincidence techniques at CEAR (Center for
Engineering Applications of Radioisotopes). This new tool was investigated experimentally and
validated by Monte Carlo simulation. A specific purpose Monte Carlo was developed to simulate
the neutron, gamma and neutron/gamma transport and it is capable of performing coincidence
simulation. Two types of well-type detector designs were tested with NaI detectors and BGO
detectors. The simulated results were successfully benchmarked with experimental
measurements. A paper was published at the 2005 SPWLA Annual Symposium.

Investigated neutron porosity tool and gamma ray density tool response in HA/HZ (High-angle
horizontal well) wells. A large number of cases were simulated with the general purpose Monte
Carlo code (MCNP5). The results were published in a company research report and presented
at 2004 Fall SPWLA Topical Conference of Formation Evaluation in High-Angle and Horizontal
Wells, in New Mexico.
