David C. Schuetz

Real estate industry leader with experience on the developer, owner, and contractor sides and from the site to regional level.

Core Competencies

Strategy: Skilled at developing effective operational strategies using a cumulative synthesis approach. Adept at drawing insights from all stakeholders through active listening, probing, and triangulating. Process ensures that all stakeholders have been heard, that potential obstacles and supports have been identified before strategy is formulated, and that stakeholders buy in to final approach.
Sample result: Achieved community-supported entitlement and zoning under aggressive timetable on properties previously embroiled in local opposition to development efforts.
Team-building: Accomplished team-builder and rehabilitator. Skilled at identifying strong team members with complementary strengths; coaching them on their role as productive team members; employing tools to enrich communication and mutual understanding; and bridging difficult organizational, departmental, and personal differences.
Sample result: Improved the effectiveness of two highly interdependent departments by reorienting the focus from personal mistrust and misunderstanding to issue resolution and shared responsibility.
Mentoring: Gifted mentor with a philosophy that success comes from empowering people rather than managing projects. Skilled at helping staff grow through strategic questioning, latitude in decision making, creating a trusting environment where risks can be taken yet needs are met, and encouragement to draw out the best thinking of the team.
Sample result: Moved managers from task competency to judgment competency. By modeling critical thinking and making individuals accountable for solutions rather than problems, reoriented staff from identifying issues to seeking critiques or validation of reasoned solutions.
