General Motors Corporation, Warren, MI(1997-2008)
GLOBAL CREATIVITY TEAM LEADER FOR ACOUSTICS (2007 2008) Responsible for $200 million annual expenditure for the procurement of acoustics for General Motors vehicles. Global responsibilities include leading weekly global creativity calls with 10 countries in four GM regions and reviewing all global source packages, maintaining the global bid list. Cost Reductions Qualified low cost country tooling sources to obtain the quality for the best price. Saved $21 M (10%) of the 2007 $254 M APV (Annual Purchase Value) with global sourcing, negotiating and implementation of new technology. Separated the tactical and strategic buying responsibilities to create comprehensive global commodity strategies on the commodities. Identified and booked over $8M in synergistic savings in 2008. Hosted VAVE and Plant walks with Suppliers in order to develop team work and cost savings ideas.
Strategic Aspects Maintained Multi Year Plans on each supplier, as well as the Acoustic Bid List, Business Over Time and approved every acoustics sourcing decision for General Motors worldwide, then presented findings to the weekly executive sourcing board. Challenged to reduce the supply base by 50% in 1.5 years, (124 to 59) and strengthened existing supply base to grow with better cost. Coordinated input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions to maintain normalized benchmarking and current trends.
Business Leadership Proactively researched new technology in areas of expertise and implemented for cost savings. Created strong collaborative supplier relationships by implementing onsite supplier engineers, initiating plant visits. Nominated as a supplier champion to aid in mentoring Tier I suppliers in doing business with General Motors. Trained 10-15 new team members as purchasing agents to transition into new rolls.
Team Leader for Commercial Execution Team (2005- 2007) Responsible for the commercial resolutions to ensure purchase processes were complete and in place to eliminate any production disruptions which included overseeing and mentoring a team of nine people. Executed all engineering work orders and kicked off all suppliers tooling to ensure timing. Closed out over 1,000 pending engineering work orders to less than 100 in 7 months with remaining less than 30 days in age. Issued all contracts to suppliers, checked and approved invoices maintaining a 100% of parts contracted to ensure on time shipments. Responsible for training the buyers on new processes to more efficiently perform commercial resolutions.
Senior Buyer (2001- 2005) Managed several General Motor North American programs with the purchase of complete door modules from Tier I suppliers with a $5 billion annual expenditure. Global sourced entire door module for all car and truck program platforms. Directed Tier I suppliers to purchase specific components including electrical and soft trim. Analyzed purchase orders to determine most appropriate source. Negotiated prices and terms with suppliers. Developed and maintained reliable suppliers, including new supplier sources. Analyzed changing market trends and structured commodity to strategize appropriately. Ensured timely delivery of materials and services purchased. Established a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project.
Buyer (1999- 2001) Managed several General Motor North American programs with the purchase of injection molding garnish from Tier I suppliers with a $700 million annual expenditure.
Technical Support (1997 1999) Assisted all buyers on this team by executing purchase orders, visiting plants, and all other aspects of the purchase of the commodity.
