To Whom It May Concern,

I am looking to make some changes in my profession; currently I am working a large scale multibillion dollar project known as Lakeshore East (www.lakeshoreeast.com) & have been there since the first piling was drilled. Even though I wear the hat of an Application Architect, Systems Architect, Network Architect, CIO and even will provide third tier support to some of our high end power users. I am a Hands On Director, and it is common to find me in the Rack Room handling the more difficult issues personally, then five minutes later sitting side by side with other architects helping them with learning and capitalizing on new technologies. Simply because I love expanding my knowledge base and skill sets; then sharing with others who want to learn and grow.

I have managed four full time IT staff members and up to 30-40 contract and consultants (As Needed) for everything from first line (tier 1) desktop support to a full blown CAN and Internet Provider to over 3000 Users, with multiple locations throughout Chicago, which included building a Unified Messaging System across multiple location, using our Cisco IP telephony hardware and software, that I incorporated into our systems a few years ago.

Respectfully Submitted,

Background SummaryAs former Director of IT, I have transitioned to the Director of Architectural Technologies so as to take on the firm wide implementation of BIM. This transition is beyond the normal CADD management responsibilities since it means a transition to non-linear business and construction process, understanding of how to really build a building; not just Vectorized drafting, BIM management must include but not limited to:
Understanding of project workflows (schematic design, design development, construction documentation phases) and project management.
Understanding different needs of the delivery teams (architects, engineers, estimators and contractors). BIM Management works much earlier with the entire project team in setting up the project structure and data exchange formats.
Technical knowledge of the BIM application used, related systems and network infrastructure, awareness and ability to absorb of new technologies quickly.
Communication and training skills (verbal and written).
Strong teaching and coaching skills to bring new team members up to speed.
Ability to communicate the benefits of BIM firm-wide, including the personal win at each level in the organization.
Objective decision-making in times of crisis.
Flexibility and mobility. Especially in multinational firms with multiple offices worldwide often require BIM Managers to help the implementation of new company standards throughout the whole company. In addition to a desire to see the world, being sensitive to cultural nuances are critical.
IT has been a good experience and place to grow, but my professional heart in Architecture, as I was raised in the Master Builder traditions. This is the technology that we all have been waiting for the last 20+ years.

Director of Architectural Technologies;

Manage the IT aspects of this profitable 5 billion dollar venture, transformed systems from little more than a home network to a full blown CAN, utilizing state of the art technologies; including VoIP, remote access to systems to consultants across the globe. A major achievement over the last year was the development of a application that we call the Matrix;

Short term goals were:

Eliminate outdated technology and increase system reliability.
Eliminate redundant data collection and entry tasks by allowing field personnel to work remotely with real-time data on laptops via cellular PCMI cards (Sprint) thru an IE Browser.
Allow corporate office personnel to see and interact with real-time data as it is updated by off-site users.

Long term goals are:,

The application will provide a one-stop location for specific tasks and data related to Sales & Marketing, Legal, Construction Coordination and Accounting.
Giving access to the diverse groups involved in the construction process will promote relationships across boundaries and continue to introduce process efficiencies.
Security controls will determine how much data specific user groups can add, change, delete and view.

A. Collins / Reisenbichler Associates, LLC 1997 - 2000
Systems Director / CADD Administrator

Based in Dallas, TX CRa to date has been one of my most pleasant experiences and only left the firm to tackle bigger challenges and learning opportunities in New England on a contract. Upon joining CRa we immediately migrated all Servers from Novell to NT 4.0 Servers and all User OS's to NT 4.0 as is my preference in a professional AEC environment for management and reliability reasons. I moved the firm from DOS based CADD to Windows environments and taught the new technologies in weekly meetings during lunch hours how to maximize productivity using the new tools available and address firm document standards.

Tasks included migrating the firms at our satellite offices to match the corporate standards and remotely administered them from Dallas. This included remotely coordinating users on the firm standards; occasional travel was required for hardware upgrades and working with users where one on one interaction was required.

In our corporate headquarters I worked closely with the Principals to head the firm in a progressive, yet profitable direction in taking advantage of new technologies as they evolved.

B. Project Architect & CADD Administrator 1993 - 1997
Group Cavasos, Monterrey, MX

This has been one of the foremost educational and major learning experiences I have to date, not only in cultural changes but design and construction methods. One of my pet projects professionally has been design and construction techniques in extreme climates using environmentally advantageous and friendly technology. Duties included building one of the first NT networks in northern Mexico, especially one that was dedicated to graphical and CADD applications.

One of my projects included a fire fighting training center in Monterrey, with an initial animated presentation that was actually mistaken for a real existing building at the presentation. It was an awkward moment

C. Project Coordinator / Animator 1987 - 1993
Champlin & Haupt, Cincinnati, OH

Champlin & Haupt is where I started to make my formal transition into IT, CADD customization and computer aided graphic rendering and animations. Besides my duties as a Project Coordinator and production drafting, I did all the geometry required for our computer models and animations. I am most proud of an interactive animation I did for Drake Hospital in Cincinnati we put in the main lobby of the facility instead of the standard static architectural scale model.
This particular interactive animation was unique because of the oversized keyboard I built using oversized arrow buttons on the keypads to navigate the user menus I programmed. Drake is a hospital that specializes in head traumas and many of the patients have pronounced physical impairments, hence when building the keypad; I built it so I could literally operate it using my elbows.

D. Universal Medical Buildings 1981 - 1987
Assistant Project Architect
Milwaukee, WI

UMB has the distinction of being the one firm that has pushed me to my professional best in size, scope and production schedules. That is not a complaint but what I consider a compliment to my learning and management skills & talents. UMB was not only a developer, but also financier and builder of proposed Medical Office Buildings (MOB's) and hospitals.

Average project size was 8 million; I also worked as an assistant PA on projects as large as 25 million, working from the production level to site administration. Projects less than 10 million I worked as the PA and Site Architect, handling everything from inspections to pay out meetings.

Projects were national and varied, from Boston, MA to Los Angeles, CA. These projects also included parking structures required to service the structures. My work was doing the "shell and core work", and we had our own in-house interiors that handled our "Suite Out" work since this type of interiors is highly specialized. I am proud to say that my projects were some of the very first that were 100% computer generated by the firm, if not in the United States.
