Dear Sirs:

I am a RETIRED Senior CAD Designer that can assist with Engineering Documents on a TEMPORARY or Long Term Basis. My CAD Design includes I&C, HVAC Ducts or Piping and DI Water System and other Flanged or Welded Piping Design for Duke Power Company.

My EARLY YEARS of Design includes Lighting, Power, Communications, Panels Schedules, Branch Circuits, Feeders, Cable Trays, Distribution Panels, MCC, Switchboards & Switchgear or Bolt Lock Switches and the associated Calculations. I understand Starters andContactors and the connections and operations of VFD and Reduced Voltage Starters and LV control. I have sized many transformers, and have arranged equipment rooms. I have sizedEmergency Generators and operated them in my military service. I designed two HVAC systems including Piping. The design generally was for COMMERCIAL Office or Business Facilities, Hospitals or Health Facilities and Coliseums.

My LATER YEARS of I&C Design includes P&ID’s, Ladder Diagrams using Relays, Schematics or Wiring Diagrams showing the component control system, PLC cabinet Design & BOM. Analog and Discrete type Loop Sheets of PLCs, Honeywell TDCs or ABB Taylor Automation Control. Loop Sheets showing Flow, Level, and Temperature Transmitters, Thermocouple or RTD and MASS Flow meters and Radar Level Transmitters. The design generally was for INDUSTRIAL Manufacturing Facilities.

My LATEST DESIGN has been at North Carolina, Florida and Michigan NUCLEAR Sites performing I&C Design for plant upgrades or Piping & Hanger revisions. One project included removing old control room cabinets and replacing with new automation control using Siemens PLC’s with Fiber Optic connection to remote cabinets or other systems.

My CAD Design includes Intergraph Microstation and AutoCAD computer systems but I should become proficient with any system you employ within a couple of weeks.

My TRAINING includes 3D MODELING using SolidWorks and ProE Creo computer systems

and NEC (NFPA 70). I have very little experience with Revit or other systems.

My PLC TRAINING includes Allen Bradley PLC5 basic and advance PROGRAMMING. But, because of my Electrician background, I was always asked to design the I/O sheets and PLC Panels. My many years of relay logic schematics and PLC training should allow me to become proficient in Programming in a couple of weeks.

My ASSOCIATE degree is in HVAC and I have previous years of HVAC design of the layouts, ductwork, piping and associated equipment.

My OTHER work includes:

  • CAD SUPPORT, New electrical design for GM stretch form machine, Piping & Pipe Hangers and Detailing, Reactor Steel Detailing with weld symbols.

  • WALK-DOWN, Gather Field Data DuPont Sites, Field Piping for DI Water System Replacement at Duke Power Co. Electrical revisions to Jocassee Power Station.

  • WALK-DOWN, Field Instrumentation walk-downs at Samarec Oil Refinery in Saudi Arabia for Computer Upgrades.

  • DESIGN CHECKER for Electrical and I&C documents.

  • ENGINEERING CONSULTANT, Walk-down manufacturing facility with other engineers and make recommendations for Product Improvements.

  • FIELD INSPECTION for Mid-level and Final Inspection of Projects.

  • FIELD ASSIST customer with last minute fixes to complete Projects.

  • ELECTRICIAN at a Textile Manufacturing Facility, building stand alone or wall mounted Hoffman Enclosures with Equipment and wiring as needed for the Project.

  • TRAVEL to locations as needed and work as long as needed. I once told Foster Wheeler, New Jersey, “I will go anywhere, anytime.” They sent me to the Samarec Oil Refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia for a one year assignment. Currently, I have worked in or passed through 14 countries and 24 US states. My last 15 years of work was mostly on the Road.

  • COLLEGE; I have many years of college taking Mechanical and Electrical Courses to aid me in the engineering offices I worked with. I recently applied some of the courses together and obtained an Associate degree. The remaining courses go unrewarded but, I took them for knowledge and not a degree.

  • PAY RATE; CAD work generally pays from $20/hr to $35/hr. Designers are expected to perform some of the Engineering work and receive from $35/hr to $50/hr. Out of town jobs usually add Per Diem for expenses, some do not. Some jobs have a short duration and higher pay. Generally, Commercial design pays the least, Industrial pays a little more and Nuclear pays the most. Please Advise.

  • AVAILABILITY; I was born in and can work in the US. Most of my work comes from repeat or overload work from previous employers that call me to assist them on a High Speed Project and I leave when the project is complete. I usually work through an  Employment Shop The duration is generally from 4 weeks to a year but can be longer as needed.

PS: If you are checking my credentials, be aware that another Steven Ronald Poteat lives in Charlotte, NC and attended CPCC as I did. Ensure that you have the proper address and phone number.
