Responsible for space planning/programming, financial analysis, project management and space utilization for all office spaces for Chicago Tribunes 3,000 employees who occupy 410,000 sf of office space across 10 Chicago area owned and leased facilities. Also responsible for broker selection, site selection, negotiations, financial analysis, lease execution and lease administration for all leased spaces. Successful projects include:
Concept to completiondeveloped, secured approval and executed the master space plan for Tribune Tower, production plants and suburban leased offices, including;
Managed 3-year, $16 million renovation projects in the historic Tribune Tower in downtown Chicago. Completed renovations of 8 floors, 170,000 sf.
Managed the space programming, cost estimating, architectural/interior design, engineering, furniture design, vendor/contractor selection, construction, logistics and cost controls.
Concept to completion--developed a facility and real estate strategy to reduce costs by downsizing a 100,000 sf leased space and improving the utilization of space in the production plant. Results include:
$3.2 million cost savings over a 5-year period by negotiating a very favorable lease extension and reducing the volume of leased space through relocation of employees to renovated space at the production plant.
$900,000 production plant space renovations that included extensive value engineering, financial analysis and project justification, architectural and furniture designs, engineering, contractor selection, construction management, logistics and cost management for 27,000 sq of office space.
Internal facilities consultant for new $12 million, 66,000 sf office building for 400 employees in upstate NY for Tribune Media Services, a sister company. Results include:
Developed the facility architectural design (interior and exterior) and created the workstation and private office designs. Value engineered $200k of cost savings and energy savings ideas.
Developed and managed $2 million furniture budget. Selected interior designer and all furniture vendors.
Concept to completion--developed real estate strategy to reduce occupancy costs of a 24,000 sf leased office and improved space utilization of a 300,000 sf direct mail production facility. Results include:
Achieved lease cost savings of $2.8 million over 5 years by negotiating favorable lease extension and reducing amount of leased space by relocating most employees to renovated space in the direct mail production facility.
Developed the plan, secured approval and managed $175k space renovations at both facilities.



SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER 1999 2003
4-year, $113 million, project transformed the production and distribution of the newspaper, significantly reduced costs and improved production reliability. Project scope included a $25 million, 115,000 sf building expansion for palletizing operations and a new, $22 million, 120,000 sf insert collating plant.
Project management responsibilities included feasibility studies, project justification and approval, value engineering, process mapping/design, schedule coordination, financial management, project coordination, reporting/communications and selection of architects, engineers, general contractor, equipment and consultants.
The 4-year project was successfully completed on time and $1 million under budget. All project and operational objectives were met or exceeded.
Awarded the Chicago Tribunes most prestigious recognition, The Publishers Team Award, for one of the most successful and transformational projects in the 26 year history of the Production Plant.
Led the Facilities Team and directed the design, engineering and construction for the production expansion building and the new collating plant. Value engineering efforts yielded over $4 million in savings.
Managed all financial aspects of the project, and collaborated on all other teams including Equipment, Systems and Transition.
Participated on the End-to-End Process Project which studied and modeled all production, transportation and distribution processes. Process improvements were implemented that significantly improved reliability and increased efficiency of transportation. Awarded the Publishers Award for second year in a row.
