Job Summary

The Vice President of Construction role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company including interfacing with executive leadership, finance and construction management as well as customer development and customer retention. The Vice President of Construction collaborates with Project Managers to share best practices, provide assistance, develop innovative solutions, compare results, impart insights, communicate finances, set and urge completion of goals, report project status, and implement project plans. As a member of the leadership team, the Vice President of Construction will monitor industry trends, develop strategy, drive development of future opportunities, and foster creativity to support Walker Company’s mission and future success.


Essential Tasks

Ensure procedures and processes are consistent across the organization and everyone is working toward a common vision.
Provide advice, guidance and strategic direction to the construction management team.
Promote strong job safety culture with employees, contractors and vendors.
Champion the recruiting, selecting, orientating, training, coaching, performance management and accountability of the construction management team as needed.
Advise, consult, lead, and provide feedback on the development of construction procurement documents, including plans and construction phase consulting services.
Attend and actively participate in partnering sessions with contractors, agencies, and organizations to obtain feedback on Walker Company’s performance and effectiveness.
Responsible for building and maintaining internal and external relationships to ensure collaboration, cooperation, and communication throughout projects.
Responsible gate keeper for technical content with subject matter experts.
Review and monitor project work to ensure that progress is within expected guidelines and is completed on time and within budget.
Review and provide recommendations on potential change orders on projects and processes per contractual requirements, providing detailed analysis of impacts to the project budget and schedule.
Enforce compliance for reporting, environmental requirements, scheduling, and invoicing.
Monitor and communicate project-related issues, scope changes, variances and contingencies that may arise during the construction of projects to CEO. Facilitate amicable solutions.
Meet with and effectively communicate with project partners, project stakeholders, and the general public.
Advise, consult, and communicate directly with the CEO and management members on project matters.
Consult and communicate with the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) regarding financial matters.
Work with appropriate internal and external resources on project management, contract provisions, terminologies, and dispute issues.
Occasionally prepare and lead presentations to the general public and outside agencies and organizations.
Assess organizational structure and recommend changes to CEO for optimization and efficiency.

Work Environment/Schedule

Work will be primarily performed in an office setting with controlled temperature/humidity; however, visits to business partners and the job site in a variety of weather conditions may be necessary

After hours networking as necessary to build and maintain business partnerships
Overtime as required


Licenses/Certifications

Preferred, but not required:
Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
Project Manager Professional (PMP)


Experience/Skills

Minimum 10 years of increasing scope of operations responsibility.
Minimum of 8 years of project management experience.
Construction background strongly preferred.
Ability to read technical manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures.
Strong influencing skills that improve bottom line performance, brand reputation and client experience.
Ability to address both big-picture issues and detailed, day-to-day management concerns.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (civil engineering preferred).
