SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
RECYCLING AND REUSE INITIATIVES
Established Recycling Programs for historically landfilled wastes - Polypropylene Molding Cups, Aluminum, Glass, Cardboard, Paper and miscellaneous Packaging Material [coated paper, plastics, metallic foils, wood etc.] Use of up to 35% cullet [broken glass] instead of conventional raw materials in glass manufacturing Operation of waste derived fuels facilities forming fuel pellets from plastic and paper wastes and burning in boilers as an alternate fuel. Burning of used rubber tires in cement kilns for energy recovery
AIR POLLUTION CONTROL AND REDUCTION
Burner design enhancements; Process Controls for improving Combustion Efficiencies, simultaneously reducing emissions of Particulate Matters and other regulated Criteria Air Pollutants Strategic selection of carbon adsorption systems over vapor incinerators yielded capital & operating cost savings of $30 million & $12 million per annum respectively
HAZARDOUS WASTE TREATMENT AND REDUCTION
Achieved 35% reduction in hazardous waste generation through source reduction and process changes Processed reactive, flammable waste polymer material into innocuous non-hazardous materials Historically incinerated waste streams processed as alternate fuels for Energy Recovery in Cement Kilns
WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND REDUCTION
Achieved 30% reduction in water usage through reuse of Cooling Tower Blow down and Reverse Osmosis Process reject streams. Additional conservation prospects identified through Water Harvesting and Gray Water Reuse. Operated and managed wastewater treatment plants with a wide variety of treatment systems.
ENERGY REDUCTION
Achieved 20% reduction in energy usage. Significant projects in the following areas: Use of high efficiency fluorescent lighting replacing metal halide lamps in warehouses and plant areas. Strategic placement of motion sensors to induce sleep mode in low traffic areas. Elimination of air leakage in compressed air systems. Thermal efficiency enhancements in oxygen enriched furnaces and kilns.
