One of the two founders of KMI and architect of its business strategy. Responsibilities have included all the necessary functions of running a small business including Sales and Marketing, Operations and Accounting. Accomplishments for KMI have included:
Attaining average revenues of approximately $400,000 in each of the last five (5) calendars years while remaining profitable since company inception in July, 1994. Securing clients in the Technology, Utility, Financial and Construction Industry business segments both in the U.S. and in Europe. Satisfying all clients through exceptional performance as evidenced by the amount of "continued engagements" or "new engagements" with virtually all clients.
Accomplishments on behalf of its clients have included:
Secured millions of dollars of electrical work for several Chicago Electrical Contractors in the last 3 years, most of which have been completed and have yielded close to a 10% Gross Margin. Assisted Executive Management of a large Electrical Utility in divesting itself of Electrical and Mechanical Contracting Units that were part of its non-regulated business. Managed a fast-track, turn-key electrical construction project of a major worship facility. This project was completed on time and within its budgetary projections. Negotiated several major Strategic Vendor-Owner Partnerships on behalf of a major Publicly Utility. The annual value of those Partnerships approached $35MM and resulted in total organizational savings of $5MM annually. Provided Quality Assurance Inspections of Electrical Work on major CTA Brown Line Transit project for the General Contractor FHPT. Conducted business process reviews/redesigns and authored procedures in the area of Contract Management, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Salary Administration, Construction Operations, and Financial Management for a significant segment of KMI clients.
These accomplishments have translated into a KMI business success, considerable professional growth and development and a good deal of personal satisfaction.
THOMAS GIBSON, INC./JWP MIDWEST, INC. Oak Brook, Illinois1987-1994
JWP was the largest electrical and mechanical specialty construction company in the world.
Executive Vice President - JWP Gibson Electric1993-1994
Responsibilities included oversight and coordination of Estimating, Sales and Marketing as well as involvement in all general corporate matters of this operating unit. Accomplishments included:
Re-established confidence with clients immediately following JWP's announced reorganization. Implemented a computerized (McCormick) estimating system throughout the company. Secured approximately $10MM worth of profitable contracts during the period of January to June of 1994. Resolved several difficult matters that had been in various stages of the litigation process.
Vice President/Executive Vice President JWP Mechanical/Electrical Services (Midwest), Inc.1992-1993
Responsible for attending to all matters involving problems and conflicts throughout an 8 State region. Accomplishments included:
Prepared a downsizing plan and initiated its implementation within several operating units of the region. Closed one of our Mechanical Contracting operating units in the Chicagoland area in an orderly and organized fashion. Packaged and sold two non-performing operating divisions of the region and realized a profit on the transaction. Resolved project related disputes at several of the operating units that resulted in significant "write-ups" of profitability on those projects. Coordinated all aspects of new and ongoing litigation for several of the operating units within the region.
Executive Vice President - JWP Technical Services Corp.1989-1992
Responsible for directing a design/build specialty services contractor that had $7MM in temperature control and security system sales in 1988 and transforming it into a technical services company that did $13MM in temperature control, security, sound, voice/data and fire alarm systems sales in 1991. Accomplishments included:
Reorganized the activities of 40 office and 55 field employees. Formalized the project management approach on all existing projects. Changed the company's name. Expanded the sales force. Initiated periodic departmental meetings structured to improve the company's operations. Introduced formal training and continuing education programs for employees at all levels including field personnel. Sensitized all employees to the commercial contractual requirements which are part of every project the company performs. One of six executive managers who authored JWP Inc.'s "blueprint" for a companywide Management Information System (IBM AS 400 and J.D. Edwards software).
These accomplishments translated into increased gross profit margins in each of the three years as Executive Vice President.
Vice President - Gibson Engineers, Inc.1988-1989
Responsible for turning around this small design/build firm that had less that $100,000 of revenue and no backlog as of mid 1988. In nine months revenues were up to $1,000,000 and the company had a backlog of $750,000 to be completed during calendar 1989. Principal duties included:
Proposal preparation and sales presentations. Training and development of new people. Client cultivation. Preparation of project execution plans.
While Vice President of Gibson Engineers, one additional responsibility included continuing involvement in the Arlington Park Race Track Project as the company's project executive. Such involvement included serving as the company's principal negotiator for some $15MM of change orders awarded to the company.
Director of Special Projects - Gibson Electric Co., Inc.1987-1988
Worked directly for the Executive Management of the Company on projects ranging from the preparation of a company newsletter to preparation of contract claims to preparation of unique electrical estimates. Accomplishments included:
Securing several million dollars of electrical contracts. Co-authoring the company's 1988 business plan. Editing and issuing the company newsletter on a regular basis. Serving as project manager on the Arlington Park Race Track Project. Designing a project plan and initiating the project procedures and reporting devices for the Arlington Park Race Track Project that would eventually become the model for all company projects.
Results from these accomplishments translated into 1988 and 1989 being two record breaking years for the company in terms of both revenue and profit.

Responsible for directing assignments in construction contract procurement and administration and other specialized areas for this, one of the largest general management consulting firms in the United States. Assignments included the following:
Analysis of construction contract procurement and management practices on a multi-billion-dollar nuclear facility. Identification of utilities' risk exposure in their Project Management Program. Prepared an analysis of last ten years of Michigan Public Service Commission Rulings concerning Management Prudence. Identification of findings in Public Service Commission rulings which are capable of being construed as utility project management standards of performance.
The reports prepared from these assignments have been successfully used as testimony or support for testimony in several utilities' electric rate cases and other forms of litigation.
THE L.E. MYERS CO. GROUP Oak Brook, Illinois1983-1985
L.E. Myers Co. Group is one of the country's largest electrical contracting organizations whose unique area of specialization includes cross-country transmission line work and high-voltage substation installation.
Manager, Corporate Development1983-1985
Coordinated the business development and strategic planning activities for this international electrical construction and engineering firm. Duties included:
The development and maintenance of positive business relationships with utilities, construction managers, general contractors and other major clients. The initiation of a company-wide strategic marketing plan. Involvement in all major proposal presentations. Presentation of new business opportunities and preparation of business plans in support of same to key upper-management officials.
Noteworthy achievements included negotiated contract awards for an 80 MW industrial power plan, a two-million-square-foot manufacturing facility, a 15 MW cogeneration plant and a 250-mile fiber optic project. Coordinated the preparation and design of the first L.E. Myers Companies' capabilities brochure, the 1984 Myers visibility and advertising campaign and the 1984 operations review portion of the annual report.
PROCON INTERNATIONAL INC. Des Plaines, Illinois1979-1983
Procon International was an engineering procurement and construction organization who provided its services to the power, petrochemical and process industries throughout the world. As one of the Signal Companies its activities were merged with that of Kellogg and Rust in 1983 immediately after Signal merged with Wheelabrator-Frye.
Director of Procurement1982-1983
Directed the company's overall procurement function which consisted of Purchasing, Expediting, Traffic and Subcontracts. Duties in support of this $200,000,000 per year activity included the development, maintenance and improvement of:
A Qualified staff of 25 procurement professionals. Systems and procedures supportive of engineering and construction activities. Department manpower and operating budgets. Positive relationships with vendors and contractors.
Noteworthy achievement included the successful negotiation of major multi-million-dollar construction subcontracts, the complete restructuring of the department's policies and procedures, and innovative utilization of people and physical resources which resulted in man-hour, materials, and subcontracts savings of 15% or more during the first half of 1993.
Purchasing and Subcontracts Coordinator1982
Managed entire procurement function on one $40,000,000 process plant engineering/construction project. Responsibilities encompassed the following:
Attendance at all project meetings. Liaison with project engineering and construction personnel. Review client changes for procurement cost impact. Compliance with budgetary and schedule requirements for all project purchased items. Preparation and implementation of the project procurement procedure. Supervision of assigned procurement department personnel.
Astute procurement control resulted in this project being one of the most profitable projects of 1982. All critical items arrived on or ahead of their scheduled arrival date. The detailed procurement procedure prepared for this job became the sample document from which all subsequent procurement procedures were prepared.
Senior Subcontract Buyer1981-1982
Responsible for the preparation of subcontract inquiries, examination and evaluation of subcontractor proposals, negotiation of subcontract terms, and ultimately the formulation and administration of the subcontract. Subcontracts administered were various construction subcontracts with values ranging from $30,000 to $30,000,000.
Noteworthy achievements included spear heading the negotiation of a $30 million subcontract which was to span two calendar years, and the preparation and design of standardized subcontract proposal data sheets that elicited all the required key information for major generic types of subcontracts.
Estimator1979-1981
Responsible for the preparation of detailed electrical estimates on major process plant construction projects. Primary function included the interpretation of contract documents for the purpose of conforming the estimate to construction and client requirements for multi-million-dollar projects. All electrical estimates prepared during this time period were prepared on time and required no subsequent adjustments.
Responsible for the design, preparation and analysis of a project statement of receipts and disbursements for the Pinellas County Solid Waste Facility. The detailed month-by-month cash flow prepared for this, Procon's first solid waste project eventually became the basis of payment for the $50,000,000 project. In no month did the expenses exceed receipts, and this cash flow subsequently became the model from which all solid waste project cash flows were patterned.

Responsible for complete electrical construction projects from estimating through coordination of project to project closeout. Projects successfully completed ranged from $1,000 to $300,000. Primary functions included negotiations, procurement, supervision of union electricians and resolution of all contract-related problems.
