Construction Safety Manager:
Initiated a Six Sigma Tool that allowed management and the work force to easily identify and correct OSHA violations.
Spearheaded a pre-shift safety walk down that produced results of zero recordable injuries.
Initiated and developed a pre-operational check list for moving heavy equipment. This gave us the ability to prioritize equipment failures with scheduled downtime.
Managed all non emergency worker injuries. Results were improved worker efficiency and cost savings.
Developed with my qualifications of OSHA 500, OSHA 30, First Aid / CPR Trainer and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) a trust and respect of the union crafts working the construction and aggregate mine-quality lab sites.
15 years of relevant experience in safety management in the aggregate mine-quality lab, large metal and construction industries.
Lean Manufacturing Manager:
Initiated a Six Sigma Project that included training in the aggregate quality lab which resulted in a 75% reduction in labor cost.
Developed for the aggregate quality lab a Six Sigma Project for raw material analysis, resulting in increased sales of many products.
Developed a Six Sigma Project for the aggregate quality lab with results of 25% less usage of a raw material plus the addition benefit of reduced defect rate in the finished product. The customer was the United States Army Corp of Engineers. The project was a billion dollar lock/dam new construction on the Kanawha River.
Led a team of Tier I automotive suppliers with QS 9000 certifications focusing on the Toyota Production Quality Control System.
Managed a team of 15 employees in the Cold Drawn Division to correctly balance the cold rolled inventory for the first time in 5 years of operation.
Spearheaded a state funding grant for improved operations for employees. Trained employees in the expertise of hydraulics, PLC troubleshooting and plant maintenance.
Developed a Six Sigma Project for labor efficiency. This produced a savings of $135 per man hour from hot rolled to cold finished.
Excellent metallurgical working knowledge in steel and aluminum.
MANAGEMENT WORK EXPERIENCE

plants directing the safety of the following: union boilermakers, steelworkers, carpenters, iron workers, electricians, millwrights, laborers and pipe fitters. The union crafts perform the
following tasks: air heater basket removal, ash pipe replacement, installing or repairing boilers and heat exchangers. Also, Jet Bubble Reactor (JBR) new construction plus administrative computer duties and all required paper work for lead abatement, arsenic, hex chrome and asbestos.

Level III Qualified Aggregate Technician from Ohio Department of Transportation, certification # 3060630, certified in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Managed two quality control state approved labs that preformed the following tasks: Sampling of aggregates, reducing to sample size for Fine and Course aggregate, sieve analysis of long-graded material, unit weight & voids, verifying shakers, sieves and ovens.
Completed advanced tests of Specific Gravity, Clay Lumps, Deleterious Substances, Uncompacted Void, Sodium Sulfate Soundness, Micro-Deval and Plastic Limit of Soil-Aggregate.
Managed two labs with 1-2 employees that held responsibility for the proper production testing. I had the authority to stop production if PWL procedures were not followed. Also, state reporting and communication for seven aggregate mine sites.
Customer complaints were rigorously and quickly resolved.
Shelly Materials is a construction corporation that owns aggregate mines, asphalt / concrete
plants, asphalt unloading facilities by river barge or rail and storage facilities. I am certified in two states for the approval of the production and raw material sales to the customer. My responsibility included all quality reporting of production tonnages to the approving states for purchase. I was promoted to the Safety Manager position along with my quality control duties. I was responsible for 10 multi site business units for DOT safety and quality control. The pending economic downturn was the reason I left for Medcor.
December 2000 to November 2003 AK Steel, Ashland, Kentucky Manager Coating Line, Quality Control & Safety
AK Steel operates a zinc-galvanized steel coating line for the automotive industry. This Tier I Toyota supplier was an award winning vendor. My responsibilities were the safety, production and quality of cold rolled steel coils. These coils were prepped, pre-heated, held to 1000 degrees before entering the continuous galvanization process. The coils were then tempered, inspected, re-coiled and wrapped for transport. Toyota used these coils for automobile hoods, trunks, side panels and roofs. These had to be perfect with no visible defects. I was responsible for a shift of 21 union steel workers and craft personnel. Safety awareness was on going. Accidents were rigorously investigated and corrected promptly. During 2003 AK Steels stock dropped from $52/ per share to $1.75. I was part of a massive downsize in November of 2003.
September 2000 to June 2001 West Virginia Cold Drawn, Point Pleasant, West Virginia
Plant Manager
West Virginia Cold Drawn operates a 10 ton and a 20 ton line. This Tier I automotive supplier draws hot rolled steel through a polished die that reduced the size of the steel to customer specifications. The steel was then cut to length and bundled for shipment. The 10 ton line was for 3/8 7/8 round & hex steel. Steel was used for lift devices in the car trunk and hood under hydraulic pressure. The 20 ton line produced steel for industrial clients with specifications over 1 in diameter.
My management style was very aggressive and resulted in 4 consecutive monthly bonuses. This had never happened in the 5 year history of this facility. Man hour/ton ratios and production costs were reduced by $135 per hr. Inventory was balanced for the first time. Policies of work guidelines and absence enforcement were established. I achieved training grants from the state of West Virginia in hydraulics, PLC troubleshooting and plant maintenance. The owners, based in St. Louis, Mo., decided to move their manufacturing operations to Mexico.
April 1979 to September 2000 Ravenswood Aluminum, Ravenswood, West Virginia
Supervisor Reduction Plant and Cold Roll Mill
Ravenswood operated 4 reduction (alumna to molten aluminum) units. Each unit produced
250,000 pounds of molten aluminum per 24 hour period. I was part of a team that achieved this record production. Also, this is where I learned the importance of strict housekeeping procedures and safe production efficiency. Safety records for my 25 employees were excellent. 1994 I was promoted to the Cold Roll Department. Ravenswood operated 3 cold rolling mills for the aerospace, automotive and can manufacturing (QS 9000 & ISO). Ravenswood provided excellent ongoing safety training including Duponts award winning program. Strict adherence to preventative maintenance measures on all equipment, including overhead cranes with lifting capacity of 250 tons was Ravenswoods modus operandi.
