Company Description:

At EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems), we will be the best rural healthcare system by 2012. Although this may seem like a lofty goal, as an integrated healthcare system, we are already well on our way. By developing strategic benchmarks, identifying our challenges, and putting into place key strategies to meet our goal we have established the framework necessary to be successful. (For a more detailed look at how we will achieve this goal, see the mission, vision, values section on this website). Together We're Stronger The employees of EMHS consult with one another, sharing ideas, experience and expertise, so we can deliver better and more efficient care. We believe that all our members bring unique qualities, skills, and resources to other EMHS members, helping the whole become stronger. Whether it's a local doctor taking care of families or a specialty surgeon backing up that doctor in times of crisis, our system of hospitals, physician offices, extended care facilities, home health experts, and other healthcare services brings the resources of more than 7,000 dedicated professionals to the bedside of each and every patient. As a healthcare system, EMHS members enjoy stronger buying power for healthcare materials and resources, which become more expensive, every year. Because we make many purchases as a group, our members are able to direct more financial resources to patient care, offering savings and also care that might not be affordable without the system buying power. We are also now looking beyond what we can do as a system, but how by collaborating with those outside our system, we can better benefit the communities we serve. Through collaborating with other healthcare organizations throughout Maine, EMHS is helping to provide seamless care for patients who are served outside of our system by establishing consistencies in care throughout our state. We believe that collaboration will help ensure future statewide access to critical services, primary care services, and preventive services. Through collaboration we will also recognize that increasing quality and decreasing cost can only be accomplished by working together where possible, for the benefit of all the people of Maine. EMHS president and CEO Michelle Hood says anytime healthcare providers get together to study issues, look for solutions to problems, and share ideas and resources it benefits the people we serve. "Advances in medicine and technology have combined to offer more people more treatment options and new hope. However, Maine is a state of finite resources so it is more important than ever that healthcare providers work together to ensure that quality care and continuity of care is provided throughout the state," Hood states. Working together we're taking care of the region of Maine we call home. Together we are working to strengthen our communities and our regional healthcare system. It's what we do. Together We're Stronger.
