JOB losses in the construction sector soared to 48,000 nationally in May, a 57 per cent rise in six months, as the collapse in new building work takes its toll.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Suspended NFL Star Michael Vick is leaving a job with a Virginia construction company to work with youngsters at Boys & Girls Clubs.

Education officials involved with the Ottumwa Job Corps project just received some long-awaited news.

Suspended NFL star Michael Vick is leaving a job with a Virginia construction company to work with youngsters at Boys & Girls Clubs. Steven Kast, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, says Vick will be working with children on health and fitness activities at several clubs in the Hampton Roads area.

The pace of job losses quickened last month with the American economy shedding 467,000 jobs, as unemployment rose to its highest level in 26 years.

UP to 100,000 jobs may be lost in construction over the next 12 months, pushing the total number of job losses in the sector to 300,000 in three years.
