Assistant Vice President for Planning and Construction   Employer: Harvey Mudd College Job Location: Claremont , CA Cash Compensation: Industry Type: Building Owners Job Description: Harvey Mudd College, located in Claremont, California, 35 miles east of Los Angeles, is accepting applications for the Assistant Vice President for Planning and Construction in the Office of Facilities and Maintenance. The Assistant Vice President for Planning and Construction will partner with the Vice President for Administration and Finance/Treasurer to serve as Harvey Mudd College's (HMC or the College) primary representatives for facility planning and the construction of new facilities. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt, benefits-eligible position. Salary is dependent upon qualifications with a minimum of $9,200.00 per month. HMC offers a competitive benefits package. Essential Functions The Assistant Vice President for Planning and Construction reports to the Vice President for Administration and Finance/Treasurer and serves as the campus project manager for construction projects and the College expert on long-range facilities development plans. This position interacts with a broad array of constituencies which includes trustees, the President's Cabinet, students, alumni, faculty, staff, city officials, architects, contractors, engineers, facilities consultants and community members. Key functions include: • Directing and managing campus planning efforts, architectural design, engineering services and contract administration. • Continually monitoring and managing all stages of projects (from conceptual design through construction) to ensure HMC's objectives are met. • Preparing and reviewing estimates and schedules at all project stages and preparing trend reports of impacts of design developments and new requirements on project costs and schedules. • Developing and monitoring detailed budgets and preparing periodic fiscal reports. • Communicating with internal and external constituencies about the planning, design and progress of construction activity. • Serving as the campus liaison between government agencies, the College's external legal counsel, and other consultants on projects subject to the California Environmental Quality Act. • Providing support for the Board of Trustees' Physical Plant and Campus Planning Committee. • Collaborating with the Assistant Vice President-Facilities and Emergency Preparedness, the Office of College Advancement, other campus personnel, and facilities managers from The Claremont Colleges in activities related to facility planning, construction and management. The Assistant Vice President also supervises the Plant Engineer, who is responsible for managing plant operations which includes the College's renovation, replacement, and renewal (RRR) deferred maintenance program and the campus's sustainability efforts. Required Qualifications The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction or project management, architecture, or a related field and a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience in planning, architecture, project or construction management, or real estate development. Demonstrated knowledge of and substantive experience with all aspects of construction management, budgeting, estimating costs, master planning, facility management systems, contract negotiation and administration, effective communication, collaboration, management, supervision, and analysis are essential. Among other requirements, the successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills; the ability to value, actively seek and respond to various internal and external constituencies in order build consensus among diverse groups and arrive at sound solutions; excellent organizational and administrative skills; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; the ability to think strategically; and expertise in conducting research and analysis. Preferred/Desired Qualifications Experience working in a college setting or other setting with a shared governance environment, familiarity with city/municipal codes, and LEED AP certification is preferred. A master's degree in engineering, architecture, project or construction management or a related field is desired. 10 years of relevant industry experience in planning, architecture, project or construction management, or real estate development is preferred.
