Job Description: The Director, Distribution Operations will be expected to begin their on-boarding with Gap Inc. Direct in Columbus, OH effective January 2010. This position will lead and support an area/facility supporting the Distribution/Fulfillment Operations for Gap Inc. Direct. This position requires extensive knowledge and experience in Distribution Center strategic planning, innovation management, organizational structure, and skills. This role will demonstrate a polished level of business acumen, be a key participant in annual budget preparations, engineering metrics implementation and review, process improvement initiatives, problem solving, decision making, people development, and establishing priorities in-line with our divisional strategy. This individual must demonstrate the ability and drive to launch a new business operation and assume greater responsibility in support of Gap Inc. Direct's growth. We are seeking candidates from the greater Toronto area.

This individual will provide strong internal and external customer focus to support and improve the customer experience and satisfaction through key metrics related to merchandise, order throughput, accuracy, and customer satisfaction ratings and assessments.

This position will provide professional leadership to create and maintain a positive work environment. Through team building, collaboration, open dialogue and communication, this individual will provide and support exempt and non-exempt associate training, goal setting, coaching feedback, and performance review assessment. This individual will build relationships based on integrity, trust, and mutual respect supporting a diverse work force that encourages job satisfaction, retention, and results.

* Demonstrate appropriate level of business acumen to participate in annual budget preparations for the Distribution Center
* Manage areas to meet and/or exceed budget; proactively identify areas where budget may be at risk
* Provide innovative solutions, problem solving, and ideas to eliminate budget variances
* Participate in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual assessment of budget variances on direct and indirect labor variances
* Maintain budgeted staff levels to ensure optimum throughput
* Use strategy and innovative ideas to maximize efficiency of facilities and operations
* Make accurate assessments and effective decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment
* Demonstrate ability to grow in position as operation expands and grows
* Support accuracy, throughput, and customer service metrics
* Maintain inventory control and support inventory shrink initiatives
* Demonstrate ability to facilitate change and directional shifts; with the ability to make decisions and act without having all information available
* Execute innovative ideas and demonstrate prompt decision-making abilities to achieve operational improvements from relevant market or customer insights; and by listening to and observing employees
* Partner with Distribution Leadership to continuously improve overall operations
* Effectively allocate resources to meet daily, weekly, and monthly objectives
* Collaborate, support, and communicate priorities within direct areas of responsibility and facility; make changes as necessary to achieve objectives daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly
* Maintain and promote clean and safe work habits and areas
* Partner with Engineering team and employees to appropriately establish work methods and metrics to most efficiently measure and complete tasks
* Track and coach performance against goals
* Participate in the development of engineered standards and performance goals for each functional area
* Provide development support to direct reports, exempt and non-exempt
* Provide feedback and effective coaching to improve performance of direct reports and employee teams within all areas of responsibility
* Build and foster positive, collaborative, and open relationships within functional areas, peer group, and support areas (HR, LP, IT, and Contact Center)
* Maintain approachability, accessibility, and open communications with all employees

Qualifications


* Direct-to-consumer experience preferred
* Cost-benefit analysis experience
* Industry experience and understanding
* Project management skills
* Proven staff development skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Effective analytical, strategic, and tactical planning skills
* Strong customer focus
* Ability to motivate teams and collaborate with other business partners
* Computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications-use of computer equipment and word processing, spreadsheet, and database products
* Ability to collaborate with key business partners, interpret and overcome obstacles, and to continuously improve the customer experience
* Ability to flex work schedule to meet business needs
* BA/BS degree in Logistics, Transportation or demonstrated equivalent experience
* 7+ years of successful, progressive leadership experience in an automated Distribution/Fulfillment environment preferred
