Job Description: |
Understand the principles of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Maintain cost controls in environmental operations and systems. Prepare environmental reports. Prepare specifications and/or design drawings to implement environmental projects and meet schedules as required. Coordinate environmental projects. Interface with other departments, groups, suppliers, regulatory and community individuals. Regularly exchange information with others within the staff. Remain current with new technology and new governmental regulations dealing with environmental issues. Plan, develop and conduct required environmental training for hourly and salaried personnel. Negotiate, communicate and resolve environmental issues with both internal and external constituencies. Provide technical assistance for support personnel engaged in design, test and operations. Identify and assist in specific Plant needs for waste management and chemical management. Assist in maintaining cost controls. Assist Plant in writing environmental bid specifications.
Required Skills/Experience:
10+ years or greater of experience in environmental engineering at a manufacturing operation. Able to relocate in the continental United States. Able to travel regularly. Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from supervisor. High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and to instruct others in new techniques. High level of oral and written communication skills. Expertise to investigate complex environmental problems and apply sound technical judgment to develop possible solutions. Expertise in more than one environmental discipline or a highly developed ability in one specialty area. High level of knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations. Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated administrative skills. Able to negotiate and resolve environmental issues with both internal and external constituencies. Provide high level of contribution to teams. Able to manage projects involving an intermediate level of dollars and limited number of suppliers, contractors or other units. High level of analytical skills to evaluate and resolve problems with little supervisory input. Maintain a good working relationship with other staffs. Have a working knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes.
Required Education:
College degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with a minor in environmental engineering. Advanced degree equivalent to 2 years additional experience. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification required. Basic understanding of current environmental laws and regulations. Computer skills including competency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet navigation.
