Job Description: |
The Louis Berger Group, a leading international A&E development firm, is seeking a long term Chief Structural Engineer/Deputy Design Manager for a USAID funded project in Afghanistan. The position is for one year with the possibility of an extension. The Chief Structural Engineer will lead the structural engineering team in preparing the design drawings of bridges and drainage structures to include integrating and coordinating geotechnical and hydrological engineering activities, she/he will review the contractor’s shop drawings as required, provide technical support in the construction of bridges and drainage structures, conduct site assessments for new projects, prepare cost-estimates, provide supervision and mentoring for bridge engineers, CADD operators and other junior level staff and provide capacity building assistance as required.
Candidates for this position must have the following qualifications:
- Registration as civil or structural engineer in country of origin
- Experience managing a staff of design engineers
- Experience in the planning, implementation and completion of bridge design projects
- Experience with AASHTO highway design standards, AISC, ACI, NSBA and other international standards as appropriate
- Experience working in international work environments, preferably similar to Afghanistan, in an expatriate status
- At least 15 year of relevant experience
Education requirements: Bachelors in civil or highway engineering
Level of English required: Native
