| Company Description: |
Almost 80 years and still growing! For decades, Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply Co. has continued to offer construction and repair contractors the prompt service, technical assistance, and quality materials and equipment to serve the heating and cooling needs of Wisconsin and many surrounding areas. Our branches now include locations in Madison, Green Bay, Wausau, La Crosse and Rockford.
Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply Co. originated on July 15, 1922, located at 323 West Juneau Avenue, they specialized in repairs, but also handled a line of Rybolt hand-fired coal and wood burning furnaces known as the familiar “pot-bellies”. Within ten years, they had gained a reputation and their business grew. In 1932, they purchased the vested rights of their previous employers, the Stove Dealers Supply Co. When the city of Milwaukee converted from manufactured to natural gas in 1948-1949, the company provided many local contractors the quality material and equipment to make those conversions.
It was around 1950 that the company really “came of age”. Fred J. Engler bought out the Oelstrom brothers’ interests in the company and changed the name to its present: Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply Co. His son, Fred C. Engler then joined the company. Still operating out of the four story building in 1950, the company purchased land at its present location, 50th and State Streets. Construction of a warehouse there was completed in the spring of 1951, and it was used to house metal and bulky materials. By November 1, 1952, the offices were finished at that location and the entire company had been relocated there.
From 1952 on, Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply Co. became a leader in the field by offering custom designed heating systems. During the great housing boom of the late fifties and early sixties, it was Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply Co. that answered the tremendous need for quality materials, modern design and technical know-how to the growing field. Almost 80 years of providing quality service, equipment and support – Milwaukee Stove is still “growing up” with Milwaukee and Wisconsin. |
