Job Description: |
Gilbane, the nation’s seventh largest construction manager, has an opening for a Director of Internal Audit.
Profile: This position will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of complex and high-risk internal audit projects. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. In partnership with the Executive Management team, this individual will play a key role in developing and maintaining a world-class internal control environment. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years business and audit experience. Must possess strong technical audit and financial skills with a comprehensive understanding of internal auditing standards, the COSO Internal Control Framework, and evaluations of systems of financial, operational, and information technology internal controls. Prior experience in real estate development and construction management is beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with executive management leveraging strong intellectual, conceptual, and analytical skills
- Design and implement cost-effective procedures to ensure that internal controls are effective in order to safeguard the company’s assets, provide for efficient processes and procedures, and achieve regulatory compliance
- Perform special projects and investigations at the request of the CFO, executive management and/or the Audit Committee
- Promote internal audit as a value add to the organization and deliver audit services that consistently improve the control environment and achieve operational excellence
- Negotiate and resolve issues
- Provide business insight and contributions to the company’s enterprise risk management
- Ensure Core Values and Code of Ethics are reflected in decisions and actions
- Manage audit staff (internal audit, external resources, or personnel from other departments on joint audits)
- Verify that internal controls are efficient and effective to mitigate business risks to an acceptable level
- Ensure assets are adequately protected
- Ensure confidentiality of financial, managerial, and operating information
Education Requirement: A Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required and certification as a CPA or CIA is required. MBA or other relevant postgraduate degree is preferred.
