Overview
Founded in 1885, MCA/MSCA-NY's membership includes mechanical, fire suppression and service contracting firms operating in the New York City/Long Island area. In addition to representing its members in collective bargaining negotiations, MCA/MSCA-NY serves as the voice of industry to city, state and local officials as well as to other regional contractor associations. Providing a range of education, training and professional development services, MCA/MSCA-NY also offers to its membership networking and peer recognition opportunities. Participation is also offered in a variety of working committees and programs to meet the changing needs and challenges facing the industry. Technical guidance and assistance on labor contract issues, building specifications and related technical matters with government agencies is also provided. The position reports to the Board of Directors and its officers of both MCA-NY and MSCA-NY, as well as trustees of two Industry Promotion Funds. In addition, the incumbent serves as a management Co-Chair and/or Chairman trustee on the Steamfitter/Service Union - Local 638 Taft-Hartley funds. Requirements Leadership with a strong/positive personal presence, and unquestioned integrity. Proven record in representational impact and function, as well as relationship development. Working knowledge of labor law and regulations. Knowledge of and/or experience in construction/service field helpful, as would be experience as an employee or active volunteer with an association. An instinct for, and commitment to, member service and mission achievement is essential.
Responsibilities - Ensure that the Board of Directors of both MCA/MSCA-NY and related industry promotion funds are fully informed on their condition and operations, as well as on all factors affecting them and the mechanical, fire suppression and service contracting industries.
- Serve as the principal liaison with union leadership, at all times advancing the interests of MCA/MSCA-NY members and the union mechanical, fire suppression and service contracting industries in New York City and Long Island.
- Serve as MCA/MSCA-NY's principal spokesperson, ensuring that their views are sought and understood by union leadership, the City Council, public agencies (e.g., NYC Dept. of Buildings, Dept. of Design and Construction, and Dept. of Environmental Protection), policy makers, news media, thereby reinforcing at all times their role as a reliable source of information on the mechanical, fire suppression and service contracting industries.
- Coordinate MCA/MSCA-NY leadership in labor negotiations (i.e. labor law, manning requirements, union jurisdiction, compliance requirements, keeping minutes), playing a direct role in negotiations as appropriate, as well as in day-to-day assistance in contract interpretation and fulfillment.
- Increase membership base and enhance membership participation in association activities.
- Maintain and expand MCA/MSCA-NY's extensive contacts with appropriate city, county, and state-level officials and policy makers.
- Oversee and ensure the continued excellence of MCA/MSCA-NY's meetings, awards, education and training programs.
- Manage staff and organizational resources to ensure that MCA/MSCA-NY's overall operational capability continues to meet the needs of their respective memberships.
