Job Description: We are currently seeking for a Principal Environmental Engineer in our Laurel office to support and manage major environmental engineering work, with primary focus on issues related to wastewater management, including reviews of laws and regulations, permits negotiation, design and operation of treatment facilities, assessing environmental impacts of discharge of treated effluent and biosolids disposal, control of odor and other air emissions and related projects and studies.



Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



* Participates in the formulation and the implementation of long-range plans for various Group programs such as: enhancing water and wastewater treatment facilities, Negotiating and managing engineering consulting contracts of a complex nature and preparation of related cost estimates, as well as supporting studies and investigations related to source water protection, water supply, wastewater treatment, and contaminated sites projects.
* Consults with various groups of the Commission and provides an effective level of internal and external coordination.
* Keeps the Groups advised of any regulations or policies that impact the Commission in the areas of Group's responsibilities.
* Participates effectively in the regional and national efforts related to the above issues.
* Support/works with engineers and other employees in the study and development of a variety of Commission projects.
* Serves as acting Group Leader




Requirements: Five years of experience in the practice of professional environmental engineering related to water supply and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment, biosolids treatment and disposal, and water resources protection, including two years of experience in planning and managing difficult engineering projects at the level of Senior Environmental Engineer; and graduation from college with a degree in environmental, civil or chemical engineering.



M.S. or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering; registration in the State of Maryland as a Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain one via reciprocity or within 18 months of employment. Experience with Finite Element Analysis; Registration in the State of Maryland as a Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain one via reciprocity preferred.



The Principal Environmental Engineer must possess comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental engineering, particularly practices applicable to the treatment of water, sanitary wastewater, biosolids/treatment residuals, air and odor emission, and assessing their environmental impacts.
