Job Description: |
Under the general direction of the Manager, Environmental and Public Policy, the Senior Environmental Engineer manages permitting activities for ongoing operations, as well as coordinates changes to the existing permits for eventual closure, working with operational and company environmental personnel, regulatory permitting staff, external stakeholders, consultants and contractors.
Responsibilities include ensuring compliance and implementation of the environmental strategy in accordance with Company guidelines, Operational Excellence Management System and all environmental regulations and laws.
Qualifications:
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
# Managing aspects of the site-wide operational permitting and compliance, including air emissions, water rights management and reporting.
# Coordinating permit activities with other site activities for existing closure permits issued by State agencies.
# Managing relationships with agency and stakeholder groups, submittals and correspondence with agencies for permitting activities.
# Providing support for environmental contracting and managing consultants working on studies, reports and other support for permitting.
# Managing and implementing the site-wide environmental compliance training program for operations, environmental staff and contractors.
# Coordinating with other business unit staff in order to ensure continued best practices, implementation of good science and maximizing efficiencies among programs.
# Working with the Manager, Environmental and Public Policy to develop and implement the environmental stewardship strategy for the facility.
# Assisting with other site-wide environmental compliance activities as necessary in order to ensure continued business operations and compliance with all environmental regulations and laws.
Required Qualifications:
# Bachelor’s degree required in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
# A minimum of 7 years environmental experience.
# Environmental Experience: Includes experience in environmental permitting with multiple agencies, as well as an understanding of environmental laws and regulations.
# Communication: Strong verbal and written skills. An effective communicator with the ability to communicate with regulatory agencies, external stakeholders and internal stakeholders.
# Initiative and Reliability: Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner, with little direct supervision.
# Ability to manage multiple consulting firms and / or contractors.
# Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, sharing ideas, skills and knowledge. Cooperative and diplomatic with coworkers, regulatory agency personnel and stakeholders.
# Organizational Skills: Demonstrated project management skills, project and permit tracking and database management.
Preferred Qualifications:
# Previous mining experience.
