Job Description: Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or related engineering discipline. Five (5) years related engineering experience. Experience or training in use of pc's, spreadsheet applications, advanced programming & Fortran programming required. Familiarity with federal aviation regulations parts 25, 36, 91, and 121 preferred. Good analytical and communication skills.

General Duties of the Job:
Prepares aircraft performance and operating data from manufacturer's data, FAA approved airplane flight manuals or other source material checks and verifies all such material prior to obtaining approval for its release.

Determines aircraft airport operating weight limitations from FAA approved airplane flight manual, manufacturers data, airport charts or other source material and prepares for publication. Develops and controls company-wide aircraft weight and balance procedures; and maintains on-line aircraft operating weight database.

Monitors the performance of FedEx aircraft through aircraft records and statistics and by conducting periodic in-flight observations. recommends and/or develops solutions to improve or correct deficiencies noted in order to ensure that maximum, safe, efficient and cost effective performance is being obtained.

Works as a consultant with flight operations in developing operational policies and procedures relative to aircraft performance.

Develops and maintains flight planning performance data modules to ensure flight planning data is consistent with aircraft performance and company policies/procedures.

Works with the flight operations department to ensure noise regulations are complied with and assists in the development of noise abatement procedures and policies.

Monitors company expansion plans to ensure airports selected for air service are suitable for operation with FedEx aircraft and acts as consultant relative to airport planning and improvements.

Evaluates performance of current and potential FedEx aircraft, as required, such as route studies and payload range analysis, etc.

Coordinates the activities of the department with the flight operations department.

Develops and implements cost reduction/fuel savings procedures.

Controls and coordinates changes for the minimum equipment list (MEL) for engineering and AOD support for all FedEx aircraft in cooperation with flight operations.

Keeps abreast of potential computer applications and develops implementation plans, program definitions, etc., if programs become scheduled for implementation.

Develops computer programs appropriate to ops eng duties and responsibilities. Maintains proficiency in mainframe and personal computer operation.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
