Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership position to grow and deliver work within BC’s Environmental Services Practice in San Diego and Southern California, including, but not limited to:
* Investigation and Remediation- Implementation and quality assurance of site permitting, investigation and remediation projects, including federal and state Superfund work; investigation, remediation, and closure of hazardous waste sites.
* Environmental Compliance and Sustainability- Excellent regulatory relationships with state and local regulators for groundwater and investigation and remediation. Strong knowledge of permitting issues, compliance issues, and sustainability principles.
Responsible for activities related to the growth and successful delivery of projects, including the following:
Growth Strategies and Marketing. Work with regional Environmental Services Leadership Team to develop vision and strategic business plan (one-year and three-year) for BC’s Environmental Services Practice in Southern California with an emphasis on San Diego, including characterization of the market and strategies/tactics to identify and pursue upcoming opportunities in each of BC’s service areas. Take lead responsibility for meeting an annual booked new business goal with an expectation of increasing annual revenues for Environmental Services in the San Diego office. Identify and lead strategic project pursuits in Southern California.
Operations. Take lead responsibility and work with operations leaders and project managers to meet goals for ES Practice staff utilization, revenue, and project profitability. Maintain personal billability of 50-60%. Track group workload and help to ensure that appropriate staff are assigned to projects. Provide input to annual regional business planning process.
Project Delivery. Work with operations leaders and project managers to ensure appropriate staff are assigned to projects, BC’s project delivery system (PDS) is applied effectively, and quality reviews are performed. Engage directly in projects, serving as project manager, task manager and/or senior technical resource.
Staff Development. As leader of the San Diego ES department, mentor and supervise senior staff in the office, oversee staff hiring plans, support performance evaluations and career planning. Lead recruiting efforts to expand ES core team in San Diego and Southern California.
Office Leadership. Coordinate with other San Diego office leaders as needed to support broader office goals, including collaboration on key client efforts across all of BC’s practice areas.
Position Requirements
* Demonstrated success with investment and growth strategies
* History of recruiting, developing, motivating, retaining, and promoting people
* M.S. or BS. Degree in Environmental Engineering or related science.
* P.G. or P.E. preferred
* Knowledge of California market and accepted industry practices specific to this geography
* Active participation in local professional organizations.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, demonstrate resourcefulness, handle ambiguity, inspire others, manage change, provide direction, and solve problems.
