| Company Description: |
High bluffs, lakes and pines form a beautiful physical setting for the City of Walker, Minnesota -- a community of over 1,000 people in northern Cass County. Walker, situated on the shores of Leech Lake, is the main tourist center for much of the Chippewa National Forest, northern Cass County and adjacent Hubbard County.
Originally an Indian mission, and later a lumbering, trading, and sawmill center offering goods for settlers and loggers in and around the village, the advent of the railroad stimulated Walker's economy and added new population growth. The village and surrounding area have grown slowly but steadily during the past fifty years.
Walker has something for everyone. Leech Lake is the third largest lake in Minnesota with over 600 miles of shoreline. Fishermen can catch anything from Eelpout to Muskies. Go water-skiing, swimming or have a picnic and sunbathe. There are boat launching facilities, and docks to park your boat while you shop.
Our city park has been redone and is right on Leech Lake.
There are tennis courts, and a playground and swimming beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day. May Lake is known for its pan fish (sunnies). The Paul Bunyan Trail (paved) goes right thru town and meets with the Heartland Trail (paved). A bicyclist paradise. There are lots of quaint shops to browse thru and good eateries too. Lots of resorts and a few motel/inns in the area. Spend a week with us. Folks are friendly and helpful.
Fall is beautiful. The trees turn and the colors are gorgeous. Bring your camera. Fall fishing is a must.
Then winter sets in.......Snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, skiing, hanging around the hearth drinking hot cocoa and roasting marshmallows.
Whatever you want to do, you can do it in Walker! |
