Job Description: Role Summary/Purpose The Senior Engineer – Utility Communications Infrastructure position will be specializing in utility / industrial communications applications, within our new Smart Grid COE working across several other teams and cross functionally within GE Energy.
# Essential Responsibilities Provide critical knowledge and analysis for customer projects involving utility / industrial communications infrastructure and equipment
# Analyze current utility/industrial communication assets of customers, and impact of Smart Grid applications on the communications infrastructure
# Propose new communications technologies to alleviate trafficking and latency issues, and perform business case modeling of new technologies that includes upfront and life cycle costs
# Service customers and partner with them to build communications infrastructures to support Smart Grid applications
# Keep track of communications trends and developments to ensure Smart Grid COE maintains external focus and leadership position in industry
# Partner with internal stakeholders, as needed
# Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are critical
# Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or electric power / power systems engineering, or telecommunications
# Minimum 5 years communications technologies experience in the power distribution or utility industry, including experience with latency / delay analysis and bandwidth and traffic analysis

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
# Ability to travel and work overtime as needed
Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
# Desired Characteristics Masters degree in electrical engineering, or electric power / power systems engineering, or telecommunications
# Hands on experience with communications equipment, including routers, networks, wireless technologies, etc, and application and cost of equipment
# Familiarity and understanding of utility / industrial business modeling with communications infrastructure, including analysis of Smart Grid applications on communications equipment and infrastructure
# MBA preferred
# Professional Engineer license desirable
# Experience with utility transmission and distribution equipment (meters, breakers, transformers) and automation equipment (diagnostics and controls)
# Experience with thought leadership activities in power industry, including professional society committees, speaking at conferences, etc.
# IEEE active membership
# CIGRE active membership
# Strong project management and technical writing skills
# Attention to details and strong analytical and problem solving skills to resolve difficult technical issues
# Desire and ability to work in a fun and fast paced, consulting oriented, team environment
# EEDP or OMLP grad, and Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification (internal GE only)
# Strong leadership skills and influencing skills
# Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of customer staff)
