Job Description: Responsible for design, design review and value engineering of architectural designs associated with new real estate developments, infrastructure, transportation improvements, marine works, etc. Assist in the planning and execution of value engineering studies on capital projects ($100 million and above) involving unique or complex architectural elements.

Compliance and

procedures management


Apply value methodologies to identify improvements for various project phases involving architectural design including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction and operation. Obtain project data and information concerning architectural design elements and requirements including drawings, specifications, project cost information, etc. Identify and prioritize strategic issues of concern. Understand the functional objectives of the project and identify potential alternatives as options to meeting project objectives.

Determine client’s goals, objectives, and project constraints to assist in establishing a financial model. Attend workshops and similar sessions as part of a value engineering team. Generate updated preliminary cost estimates which may occur at major milestones: outline, schematic and detailed design stages. Set target cost savings on each value engineering idea. Assist in preparation of value engineering report encompassing all cost related issues. On client approval of value engineering proposals set new budget.

Performance management


Assist with development of Value Engineering studies of large scale capital developments. Knowledgeable of local and international consultants and contractors and periodically meets with other architects, engineers and Value Management representatives. Ability to develop and facilitate and/or support Value Engineering Studies. Monitors significant developments in architecture and Value Engineering fields via review of technical literature, attendance at conferences, etc.

Risk management


Identify potential project risks to successful completion of the works. Develop and assess low-, medium- and high-risk scenarios as options to project plans.


Perform all other duties that may be requested by the Value Engineering Manager and/or the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

Bachelor‘s degree in Architecture. Membership in a professional architectural association such as RIBA and AIA essential.

Master’s degree in Architecture. Post-graduate education and/or participation in technical, Project Management or Value Engineering-related seminars are highly regarded.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years’ experience involving large-scale residential developments, commercial office buildings, resort and business hotels, entertainment and retail complexes, marine facilities, highways, ports, aviation and/or infrastructure improvements among similar facilities. Has a minimum of 5 years of Value Engineering experience. Ability to develop and facilitate and/or support Value Engineering Studies. Certification as a Certified Value Specialist, Associate Value Specialist, or Value Methodology Practitioner preferred. Ability and willingness to live and travel throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Experience in Middle East/North Africa desirable. Previous experience with architecture/engineering consultancy highly regarded.
