Preconstruction Director- Education   Employer: McCarthy Building Co Job Location: Newport , CA Cash Compensation: Industry Type: General Contractors - Managers Job Description: Lead McCarthy’s team efforts to provide Preconstruction services to our Education-based clients. This includes developing a bid strategy, and leading and executing the entire bid process for both negotiated bids and hard bids. This position will report to the Chief Estimator of Education Services, a business unit that serves the K - 12, Community College and University markets. We perform a variety of delivery types for these markets, including CM At-Risk, Owner-Agent, General Contracting and Program Management. Responsibilities: • Establish and maintain budget control over trades during Estimating/Precon phases of the project • Provide value engineering solutions including cost/schedule implications • Assist Project team in design decisions and development of solutions • Represent McCarthy to subcontractors through management of the estimating process, including solicitation of bids and constructability input • Coordinate bid efforts, processing RFI’s, and interfacing between bidding community and design team members on negotiated projects • Assist in the development and training of other estimating staff • Assist the Marketing department in preparation of responses to RFP’s and RFQ’s • Participate in interview preparations for negotiated bids • Assist in the prequalification process Qualifications: • 7+ Years of Experience • Bachelors degree in Construction Management or Engineering required • General knowledge of construction principles/practices required • Experienced dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work • Experience leading successful team ventures, including development of employees and maintaining relationships with external entities and subcontractor community Company Description: Founded in 1864, McCarthy is one of the oldest privately held construction firms in the nation.
