West Coast Tunneling Director   Employer: AECOM Job Location: Los Angeles , CA Cash Compensation: Industry Type: Design Build Firms Job Description: AECOM has a strong in-house tunneling section which has successfully completed a wide range of projects in a variety of locations and ground conditions. This solid base of practical experience has allowed AECOM to pioneer innovative approaches to tunnel design and construction for a broad spectrum of clients. AECOM has carried out designs for all forms of tunneling: Immersed tube, Cut and cover, Bored, Driven and Sprayed concrete lining (SCL) AECOM’s tunneling expertise is complemented by the ground technology section. The two sections work in close co-operation to provide a proper understanding of the often complex interactions between ground, structure and construction method that is fundamental to economic and safe tunneling. Together the two sections provide a total tunneling service responsive to the requirements of the multi-disciplinary AECOM and its clients for: · Highways, full length tunnels, underpasses and subways · Railways, including running tunnels and stations · Environmental engineering projects including bulk water supply mains, trunk sewers and river diversions works · Services, for electricity, gas and telecommunications · River and sea crossings · Specialist contractual advice · Support to public inquiries including expert testimony. In order to deliver our growing work load we are currently seeking to recruit a Principal Tunnels Engineer preferably Chartered with experience in the design and construction of tunnels, shafts and underground structures. You will add to the current technical resources, and preference would be shown to individuals with experience of FE modelling for soil-structure interface (Plaxis, FLAC and similar) in particular. You will have a strong technical background in structures and/or geotechnics and be able to demonstrate you have delivered designs for multidisciplinary projects (to quality, time & budget). You will have experience of working closely with Clients & Contractors and be able to assist with the technical development and training of the team. In addition you will be expected to support the Senior Management team with day-to-day management and financial performance of projects.
