Job Description: |
The Director of Environmental Affairs will be a strategic partner to the business in interpreting, recommending and ensuring compliance with environmental laws, regulations and company policies with a focus on environmental management systems, sustainability, continuous improvement, assessments and benchmarking
Responsibilities:
* Responsible for the development of the Company’s environmental policies, goals and compliance efforts.
* Performs periodic environmental audits of all Company facilities to evaluate practices and procedures and recommend improvements.
* Provide leadership and coordination of the Company’s sustainability efforts and develop a consistent plan to reach long and short-range program goals.
* Prepare information on environmental performance for internal and external stakeholders.
* Provide environmental expertise for new projects, project improvements and acquisitions.
* Foster and develop Company environmental values that are consistent with laws, regulations, sustainability goals, industry best management practices and community needs.
* Assist business leaders, manufacturing and environmental staff and site personnel to maintain environmental management systems, compliance evels, consistent practices and procedures and company environmental goals.
* Develops new concepts or methods related to environmental matters in order to improve environmental performance
* Plans and implements field surveys and monitoring activities on environmentally related matters.
* Participate in governmental inspections of Company facilities and assist facility personnel in response actions.
* Prepare reports required by applicable regulatory agencies, insurance carriers and other relevant organizations.
* Provides technical guidance and instruction to other functional groups regarding environmental matters.
* Responsible for working with Company facilities to ensure proper selection of all environmental contractors, consultants, testing companies and waste disposal firms. Also participates as needed in audits of third party vendors to ensure their compliance and minimize company liability for disposal practices.
* Assist the Company in the due diligence investigations of potential acquisitions and or sale of company business units and assets.
* Participate in the investigation all potential property losses/casualty losses that occur in the Company and act as a liaison to our insurance company on environmental aspects.
* Directly respond or assist in the response to environmental emergencies such as spills, leaks, discharges and other releases affecting the company’s operations.
* Work with facilities in the preparation of environmental impact statements, permits, modifications, discharge reports and other environmental submissions
* Assist facilities engineers and personnel in planning changes and operations in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements.
* Functions as a liaison with government agencies, insurance carriers, customer agencies, professional societies and industrial associations involving environmental protection, sustainability, industry practices, compliance, legislation, management systems, community awareness and communications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Four-year college degree in environmental, engineering or related science degree.
* Demonstrated successful leadership and guidance of environmental management programs.
* 10+ years of environmental experience in corporate and manufacturing environments.
* Prior corporate environmental management experience with a multi-plant company.
* Environmental due diligence skills related to acquisitions and divestitures.
* Comprehensive understanding of environmental management practices, principles and procedures.
* Working knowledge of domestic federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.
* Ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
* Effective negotiation skills.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be willing to travel 50-60%.
