The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, would like to invite applications for the Division Chief position in the Physical Plant.
The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, would like to invite applications for the Division Chief position in the Physical Plant. Under general supervision of the Vice President for Facilities and Engineering, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following: coordinates and directs maintenance and operational activities of the Buildings and Grounds Division; performs diversified duties requiring considerable knowledge of construction materials and practices, building codes , specifications and costs; responsible for the structural maintenance, improvement and repair of campus buildings including 120 units of faculty and staff housing and athletic facilities; and is responsible for the maintenance of 130 acres of campus grounds, and support of campus activities and special events. Candidate will be responsible for hiring, discharging, motivating, performance reviews and disciplining personnel assigned to the Buildings and Grounds Division.
A high school diploma and 10 years of applicable building construction, maintenance and repair trade experience is required. Extensive knowledge of grounds maintenance, greenhouse operations, landscaping, motor pool operations, and boating/ waterfront activities is required. Proven management experience with ability to effectively plan, and execute instructions and supervise a staff of maintenance personnel is required. Incumbent must be able to operate a personal computer, must be familiar with word processing and spreadsheet software, possess the ability to write and interpret technical papers and reports. Must be able to effectively communicate to a broad variety of people orally, in writing and electronically. Must have a valid SC driver's license with in 90 days of employment.
Must be able to climb ladders, stoop and bend. Must be customer oriented, and be able to interface with various levels of personnel from trades workers to Vice Presidents.
Employee filling this position must be a team player that understands the college and physical plant environment. Developing a successful team effort within the Buildings and Grounds Division will be critical to the success of this position. Overtime, weekend and some holiday work will be required. Must be willing and able to perform limited travel.
