Job Description: SUMMARY:
Function: Provides professional facilities engineering expertise for all remodeling, renovation, new construction, and equipment replacement projects for the U.T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and manages cross-functional teams within Facilities Management in the development of institutional engineering standards for similar projects.

Scope: Responsible to develop, implement, and maintain all institutional engineering standards for the U.T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and to serve as the institution's authority for all engineering matters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manages all resources required to provide design management services and to develop and maintain technical engineering standards related to: remodeling projects; renovation projects; new construction projects; facility equipment replacement projects; and new facility equipment installation projects.

2. Creates and maintains technical engineering standards in support of construction document preparation by U.T. M.D. Anderson staff and professional design firms.

3. Visually reviews and provides written comments on design plans and specifications prepared by consultant Architects, Engineers, or Interior Designers.

4. Acts as a departmental liaison with Patient Care and Research & Education engineering staff, external consulting engineers, and other professional consultants.

5. Manages or assists in the process to qualify and select professional design firms for the purpose of contracting for professional design services.

6. Complies with applicable building codes and other regulatory requirements governing the provision of engineering design services.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in a facilities engineering field.

Preferred: Master's degree in business or facilities engineering field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Ten years of engineering design beyond receipt of degree with emphasis on designs of facility mechanical systems, to include at least three years of supervisory experience.

Preferred: Greater than ten years of engineering experience beyond receipt of degree with eight years of healthcare or research design experience. Previous managerial experience in a facilities management organization.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Registered Professional Engineer.

Preferred: In addition to Professional Registration, Certification as a Construction Specification Institute Certified Construction Specifier (C.C.S.).
