City & State: Durango , CO
Industry type: Specialty Contractors
Company Description: Friends Jeff Jaeger ƒ??83 and Chris Manfredonia ƒ??83 were business students enrolled at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, when they started an energy management company selling computerized energy controls. The fledgling enterprise never got too far off the ground, however. Instead, Jaeger and Manfredonia picked up on the need for residential insulation services. The two friends formed San Juan Insulation in 1983 by buying out a local insulation business that had $100,000 in annual revenues. The young company started with a crew of only five its first year, and San Juan added drywall two years later. In 1987, one of San Juanƒ??s major drywall competitors in Durango was struggling. San Juan recruited many of its technicians and estimators, which expanded the companyƒ??s services into metal stud framing , acoustic ceilings and stucco. So in turn, San Juan could offer a whole package on the commercial market level. In 1996, the company spun off its residential services, operating under the name Animas Drywall. As a response to the lackluster economy, San Juan also began diversifying its products by supplying roofing supplies and contractor supplies.
