Company Description: Information about the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA):

AIA’s Core Mission is as follows:

promotes a vivid and informed public interest in past cultures and civilizations
• supports archaeological research
• fosters the sound
professional practice of archaeology
• advocates the preservation of the world's archaeological heritage
• represents the discipline in
the wider world

The AIA believes that education is the key to protecting the record of the human past by helping the public to gain an appreciation of
our shared cultural heritage. Ultimately, lessons from our common past will enable us to create a better future.

What makes the AIA unique? The AIA
runs many successful programs, including a prestigious academic journal, an annual meeting attended by over 3,000 people and a tour program that allows
people to be inspired by archaeological sites first-hand—but a few make the AIA stand out among other related organizations.

• ARCHAEOLOGY
magazine — the AIA started a newsletter for its members in 1948 which has grown into an award-wining, fully illustrated magazine recognized as the leader
in its class. Currently the magazine educates and entertains nearly 750,000 readers. This powerful tool puts the AIA in a unique position to communicate
with a large audience of readers who care about archaeology.

• Network of 105 Local Societies — the AIA started with one society in 1879. Today
the AIA has a national headquarters and 105 independent local societies, run by volunteers working to bring the excitement of archaeology to the public in a
variety of forms. The societies offer programs such as lectures by archaeologists, field trips to museums, unique activities such as the construction and
use of an ancient kiln, archaeology programs and kits for local schools and libraries, archaeology fairs, and workshops where teachers learn how to harness
children’s fascination with archaeology to teach a variety of skills including teamwork, planning, critical thinking, data collection and analysis,
drawing, and presentation to their local communities This network of societies puts AIA in a position to amplify its efforts and produce programs that are
scalable across the North America and beyond.

• Professionals and lay members — the AIA is unique in that it is a professional membership
organization that welcomes interested members of the public creating a synergy between the two groups. Professionals communicate what can be done to protect
the record of the human past and what is most needed in the field to an interested base of lay members and magazine readers who help fund the resulting
initiatives and get the message out to the rest of the public.

• The #1 ranked website for archaeology-related searches — in response to the
growing use of technology and the trend towards self-directed education, the AIA has developed websites that allow anyone in the world to access
archaeological news, knowledge and resources on demand. With about 1.5 million visitors each year, these websites enable the AIA to reach a very large
audience of people who have expressed an interest in archaeology. With additional funding we could build more interactive web tools which would bring even
more people together to advocate for the protection of our precious and limited archaeological resources, with activities such as grassroots letter-writing
campaigns and the creation of electronic petitions.
The AIA has demonstrated over the past 129 years that it excels at starting and maintaining
high-quality programs. The organization has developed tools that it can leverage to communicate with the public and to spread quality programs across North
America and beyond. As new opportunities and challenges present themselves, the AIA continues to respond with appropriate programming including the recent
creation of its site preservation program and the expansion of its websites. We are currently planning the creation of a website specifically for
children.
FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN:

However, the AIA, like other non-profits who find that they have developed programs that are successful beyond
their original vision, has stretched its resources to expand these programs to as many communities and people as possible. Therefore, we are conducting a
feasibility study for a new fundraising campaign which will provide the resources necessary to maintain and enhance current programming and help take AIA to
the next level with bold new initiatives. The Chief Financial Officer will have the opportunity to be a part of that initiative in a supportive and
entrepreneurial environment where everyone is required to reach toward a standard of excellence and individual and team efforts are recognized and
appreciated.
