Construction Career Management
My boss spends a lot of time at other office locations, so she is not very visible around the corporate office. Whenever she's gone, construction executives figure that I am the one to whom they need to speak to in regards to problems or questions that occur. I do not mind helping construction executives or assisting them with their questions. However, I am getting a little frustrated, as my current job title does not reflect my current role. Nor am I receiving additional income for a more diversified role. I am not ready to leave the construction employer but I would like your help in advising how I can turn this situation around?
I have a wonderful job that I really enjoy. I like my boss and we have a good relationship. Lately, she has been taking time off during the workday to take care of personal errands. Several times the president of the construction employer has come to me and inquired as to his whereabouts. I am caught in the middle and have lied to him. My conscience is getting the best of me and I am not sure how to approach the situation.
I recently left the construction employer that I was working for due to a personality conflict with my boss. I am finally happy and secure in a new position. However, yesterday as I was returning from lunch, I saw the VP of my new construction employer shaking hands with my old boss. He then turned around and announced that this person was to be the new director of the dept that I work for. I am not ready to make a move again and don’t want to run from this person.

My supervisor accepted the friend's side of what happened began to "throw the book" at me. I got upset and walked out. I want to keep my job but do not want to continue working with this person. I plan to follow grievance procedures with HR. IS there anything that you would recommend short of documenting everything?

I received two offers for similar positions. They were pretty equal, except in salary. One was about 30k higher than the other. When I decline construction employer A's offer, should I state it's because I have another offer from Company B for $XX? Or, should I keep it more generic and simply say the salary offered doesn't meet my requirements?

Different people have told me that a two-page resume is better than a one-page resume, and vice versa - and I should take into consideration the "8-10 year rule of thumb." What is this rule? For the record, there are jobs on my resume that I am proud of and do not want to take off to make my resume shorter. What should I do?

I have identified an construction employer in a similar business in my area as a target but cannot get them to give me the time of day. I have tried a number of methods but to no avail. Any ideas for getting an construction employer to open up? I have written letters, made calls (only to get voice-mail), had friends inquire on my behalf, but still nothing.
