What is Construction Senior Estimator Job Description ?
Responsibilities:
The individual is responsible for gathering any and all data required in preparing lump sum, unit rate and cost plus detailed estimates. Responsible for conceptual estimating, cost analysis, and estimate coordination. Duties include review of and development of discipline and multidiscipline material takeoffs (MTO), evaluation and/or development of construction labor rates and evaluation of subcontract cost estimates and proposals.
Perform productivity analysis of cost estimates, prepare contingency, escalation, and reconciliation's for estimates; perform comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects; prepare management presentations and develop an estimate basis.
Review of process designs and engineering specifications for cost effectiveness and suggestions for alternatives where applicable. Field construction experience is highly desirable, but not required.
At some point in time, this individual would be expected to assist in supervision of Level 3 to Level 5 individuals assigned to the estimating group. Must also be able to coordinate team activities, conduct project cost estimate review meetings, and interface with executive management.
The preferred candidate will possess:
10 - 20 years experience.
Significant and relevant experience in Estimating or Design and Site Construction management may be substituted for a BS in Engineering.
The individual is competent in performing all aspects of cost estimating, and does not require direct supervision. Skills include the ability to read, interpret and comprehend engineering specifications, process design drawings (PFD's, P&ID's, Equipment Data Sheets, etc.) and contracts. Activities will include reviewing and analyzing complex bills of materials, assessing labor productivity and labor costs, researching vendor, manufacturing and construction costs. They must be able to enter data into a combination of spreadsheet and database software programs and create useful information from raw data submitted by others on the team. The individual must be able to document and organize a complex stream of information and paperwork very quickly.
Field experience is a significant advantage and should exist in this individual's background of completed projects.
Good verbal and written communications skills are required. Good presentation skills and interpersonal communication and team management skills are also required.
