I was fired from a job. How do I keep that from hurting my chances?

Be honest about it, and make sure you own your part of the problems and demonstrate that you understand how the problems developed and that you now have the skills to solve those problems should they arise again. Emphasize the work you've done that shows you have the skills you have claimed to have. Do not attack your ex-construction employer under any circumstances.
