Help! I am getting no response from any of the construction employers to which I have been applying. I meet the requirements for each and know that I can do the job. What am I doing wrong?


Unfortunately, you and too many thousands of other job seekers are getting the same lack of response to job applications. One of the difficulties is that because unemployment is so high, construction employers and staffing agencies with open jobs are literally overwhelmed with applicants.
They are getting double the normal amount of responses to their ads. It's not enough to just meet the requirements. With all the competition out there you need to exceed them.
So what can you do?
Be persistent for starters and keep trying to contact them (don't be obnoxious about it though!).
Take another look at your resume. Most people reading your resume quickly scan it for as little as 30 seconds before deciding if it even passes the first cut.
Make sure your headings are clear, the resume follows a logical order, the typeface can be easily read and try bulleting the most important points you want to get across.
